Being a two-sport standout student-athlete at the College of Saint Benedict is a tough task to pull off, but Robyn Ruschmeier Courchane made it look easy.
Ruschmeier Courchane graduated in 1999 with a degree in music education with an impressive 3.84 GPA. Her academic success gave her a spot on the Dean’s List, as well as achieving the CSB President’s Scholarship.
When she wasn’t in the classroom Ruschmeier Courchane was on the court setting high marks as a member of the Blazer volleyball and basketball teams.
It did not take long for Ruschmeier Courchane to become an impact player for the CSB volleyball and basketball programs. She was named CSB Rookie of the Year in 1995-96 and was a two-time CSB Athlete of the Year selection in 1997-98 and 1998-99.
Ruschmeier Courchane is a member of the Blazer basketball 1,000-point club and currently ranks eighth in all-time scoring with 1,281 points.
She was a two-time All-MIAC selection (1996-97 and 1998-99). In 1998-99 Ruschmeier Courchane was named to the NCAA Final Four All-Tournament team and was also the basketball team’s most valuable player in 1998-99.
Ruschmeier Courchane also excelled on the volleyball court for Saint Benedict where she compiled an impressive career as four-year starter.
She still owns the record for most kills in a season (588) and most kills per game in a game (4.98). Ruschmeier Courchane also occupies a spot in the volleyball 1,000-kill club, and currently ranks first in all-time career kills with 1,771.
After earning an All-MIAC honorable mention her first-year, Ruschmeier Courchane was a three-time All-MIAC volleyball team selection (1996, 1997 and 1998). She picked up All-American honors in volleyball her junior year, and was Academic All-American in 1998.
Ruschmeier Courchane made the most of her time as a Blazer student-athlete and really enjoyed everything that came along with it.
“I loved the team trips to the Bahamas and Italy, summer camps, the road to the Final Four and National Championship game and great teammates and quality coaching staffs,” Ruschmeier Courchane said.
Ruschmeier Courchane is currently employed at Marco as a system engineer supporting and installing document management and other software appliances for customers, as well as providing pre-sales support to sales representatives and managers.
She also serves as an official for volleyball and basketball and has officiated in two Minnesota Girls’ State High School Basketball Tournaments.
Ruschmeier Courchane is married to Chris Courchane, 1999 graduate of Saint John’s University, and together they have two sons.
