Hall of Fame
To those who know Kathy Yarnott Lowry they are not surprised that she is being honored. Heart, grit, passion and determination just begin to describe Kathy.
Kathy graduated from Elk River High School in 1986 before attending CSB, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing in 1992.
Kathy, a goal keeper, did more than just participated in soccer for four seasons - she excelled at it. She was in net when the Blazer soccer squad became the first team to compete in the 1990 NCAA National Championships. Following the season, she was named the nation's Goalkeeper of the Year, and an All-American.
Kathy was a two-time All-MIAC keeper and the team's MVP as a junior. Following her playing career Kathy was an assistant coach in 1991 when CSB won its first league crown. Kathy was also a member of the Blazer basketball team that captured its first conference championship in 1988-89.
During most of Kathy's athletic career she suffered from back pain that sometimes required her to stand or lie down while attending class. She was selected by over 200 student-athletes as the department's Most Inspirational Player in 1991.
The classroom was another area in which Kathy performed at the highest level. She achieved a pair of Academic All-MIAC honors and was selected to receive the All-American Scholar Collegiate award. Finally, in the spring of 1992, Kathy was accepted as a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
Kathy has served seven years in the U.S. Air Force and as of 2000 was a captain. She graduated from Squadron Officer School ranked second among 702 students. She spent four months in former Yugoslavia during 1998 as part of an implementation force that provided medical care for the troops.
Kathy remembers the camaraderie she felt about CSB athletes, coaches and faculty. She credits her involvement in athletics to the many friends she still has today.
Kathy and her husband Steven were married in Sept. 1999. They reside in Fayetteville, N.C.
