Linda Davis certainly logged the most Frequent Flyer miles to attend the 1996 induction. All the way from St. Augustine's College in the Bahamas to Minnesota, Linda was a dedicated volleyball and basketball student-athlete from 1973-77.
Linda was a captain for both the basketball and volleyball teams during her junior and senior years. During her time in Minnesota, Saint Benedict competed widely throughout the state against larger colleges that are now NCAA Division I and II competitors.
"Considering the size of the college, we stood our ground fairly well against the larger schools, which had considerable student populations from which they selected their teams," said Davis. "We had our ups and downs throughout the seasons, but we kept going,"
Some of the most memorable moments as an athlete at CSB, according to Linda, included "traveling throughout the state with the varsity teams, especially to big tournaments."
Besides athletics at CSB, Linda was involved in the International Students Association, where she served as president for one year, and the Black Students Union.
After graduating from CSB and teaching high school in the Bahamas for three years, she continued her studies at the University of Ottawa, Canada, where she earned a master's in education in 1981. Later she attended the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, where she obtained a doctor of philosophy in social and educational studies (1992).Â
As of 1996, Linda was the coordinator of academic services at the College of Saint Benedict/Saint John's University, Bahamas Campus. She was also the dean of professional studies at the College of the Bahamas, as well as a member of the Bahamas Catholic Board of Education.
Linda is single and resides in Nassau, Bahamas.
