Dr. LuAnn Rief served as the Faculty Athletic Representative at the CSB Athletic Department from 1985-2020.

Named the recipient of the 27th MIAC Distinguished Service Award recipient in 2020, Rief was a professor in the department of nursing at CSB/SJU. Rief, who was named vice president of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 2003, helped reshape conference rules to ensure MIAC student-athletes receive the best academic and athletic experience possible for several decades.

She served as a member of the MIAC Executive Committee, MIAC Compliance Committee, and various search committees to hire both the first and second executive directors in conference history.

As well as serving at the conference level, Dr. Reif attended the NCAA convention nearly every year for over 35 years to represent the CSB athletic department and gain perspective on the impact and involvement of FARs nationally.

She was also honored by the Minnesota Chapter of National Girls and Women in Sports Day with a Breaking Barriers Award in 2006 for helping to develop opportunities for women in athletics.
