Kathleen "Kathy" Robinson McClellan exemplified the ideals of a student-athlete while at the College of Saint Benedict.
Robinson excelled on the basketball court, softball diamond and in the classroom, graduating cum laude in 1977 with a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education.
She was a member of the Blazer basketball team for three years and the softball team for two seasons. As a sophomore McClellan was the basketball team's captain, and then earned the Outstanding Player Award following the season. She was also captain of the softball team her junior year.
"I still remember how excited I was when our coach told us the starting lineup for the first Saint Ben's basketball game ever; it was my first year and I was starting," McClellan said. "We won the game and then qualified for post season play that year. Then in my junior year (1975-76) we were undefeated in our first six games. But my most cherished memory was the thrill of participation as an athlete at CSB."
Besides being one of the first CSB students to receive a coaching certificate, she was also instrumental in pushing for acceptance in arranging class schedules so that student-athletes could participate in intercollegiate athletics. Her intramural involvement was in volleyball and officiating.
Following graduation from CSB, Kathleen taught at St. John's Area School in Foley, Minn., for four years. She then moved to Faribault, Minn., and taught at Consolidated Catholic School for three years and coached seventh and eighth grade basketball as well as eighth grade softball. In January of 1988 she was asked to be a parent educator in the Early Childhood Family Education Program in Faribault and did so for a year. She then became a part-time parent educator in the Medford, Minn., program in 1990. As of 1992 she returned to teach one class in the Faribault program, while continuing to teach in the Medford program. McClellan continues to be very involved in numerous activities within the parish.
Kathy and her husband Jim have three children: Maggie, Katie, and Michael. They reside in Faribault, Minn.
