Joyce Spanier Borash's decision to attend the College of Saint Benedict in 1987 dramatically affected the direction of the Blazer basketball program. That impact is still felt today. With Joyce's arrival, the Blazers instantly became a respected contender in the conference and among the nation's elite NCAA Division III programs.

During Joyce's athletic tenure, Saint Ben's was 84-25 overall- the Blazers won 20 games or more each of her four seasons, won its first MIAC crown her sophomore season, and made three NCAA Tournament appearances.
Joyce graduated in 1987 from Belgrade High School before graduating from the College of Saint Benedict in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal studies.

With team success came loads of individual success. She was CSB's first Kodak All-American following the 1990-91 season, and until 2000, Joyce was the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,661 points. As of 2000 Joyce still held the record for most points scored in a season (484), most 3-point baskets made in a season (61) and the most 3-point  baskets in a game (7). She was named the team's most valuable player following the 1990-91 season; and three times the conference coaches selected her All-MIAC.

Some of Joyce's fondest memories are the huge crowds at home games and taking her first airplane ride when the team flew to Michigan for the NCAA Regional Tournament her junior season.

Joyce, her husband Wayne, and two children Jacob and Aaron live on and own a dairy operation in Little Falls, Minn. As of 2000, Joyce was a Folk choir
