COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Led by the record-breaking performance of
Kate Gallagher, two field event wins by
Sabriya Farquharson and seven event titles, the No. 21 ranked College of Saint Benedict shined at the CSB/SJU Quad Meet on Saturday (Feb. 10) in Clemens Stadium.
The Bennies, which had five program top-10 marks and 34 top-eight finishes won the quad meet by recording 200 points. Finishing in second at the CSB/SJU Quad was Gustavus Adolphus with 134 points followed by Concordia-Moorhead in third with 103.5 points and DII Southwest Minnesota State, fourth with 103 points.
For the second time this year, senior
Kate Gallagher finished second and set a school record in the indoor 60-meter dash by going 7.89. She had clocked 7.92 at the M City Indoor Meet in Minneapolis in December. First-year
Grace Buntrock was fourth in the 60-meter dash in a personal-best of 8.11, which ranks tied for eighth all-time indoors with Suzi Adams (2015) and Samantha VanErp (2016).
First-year
Sabriya Farquharson and senior
Ellie Selisker both had CSB top-10 program marks in the long jump. For the second time this season, Farquharson had a jump of 5.29m – 17-04.25 which ranks tied for fourth all-time at CSB. Selisker had both a season and indoor personal-best by going 5.27m -17-03.50 for second place in the long jump. First-year
Samantha Solheid had her personal best by placing seventh in the long jump at 4.82m – 15-09.75. Selisker also placed third in the high jump by going 1.50m-4-11-0. The Bennies also had a first-place finish from Farquharson in the triple jump as she recorded a result of 10.60m – 34-0.50.
Senior
Bridget Tetmeyer finished first in the mile run by clocking 5:37.25 with two other Bennies placing in the top-five. Sophomore
Isabel Kraabel had a personal-best of 6:16.58 for fourth in the mile while sophomore
Ayva Burshem was fifth in 6:29.69. And, sophomore
Jaylyn Ahlberg won a pole vault with a winning vault of 3.55m-11-07.75 while first-year
Ming Li Raidt was third in 3.10m – 10-02.00.
In the 60-meter hurdles, first-year
Anya Adelgren had a PR in the prelims at 9.43 which is just .01 off the program's top-10. She clocked 9.58 in the finals to place sixth overall. Sophomore
Lauren Berg was eighth at 10.31.
Senior
Tiana Johnson was second with a season-best 27.06 in the 200-meters while senior
Mirijana Ganley was eighth in a season-best 27.70.
CSB took three of the top-four spots in the 1,000-meter run, including a first-place performance by senior
Lucy Lyngen, who clocked 3:06.49 in running the race for the first time. Junior
Kalli Smith was second with a personal-best of 3:06.63, just .14 behind Lyngen while first-year
Taylor Radaich was fourth in 3:09.71 as she also competed in the race for the first time.
In the 800-meters, CSB had four of the top-eight finishers, including a season-best by sophomore
Brooke Verkinnes, who won the event in 2:30.46. First-year
Leah Taszarek was fifth in 2:40.17 while first-year
Katelyn Van Marel was seventh in 2:45.94 with first-year
Marin Kaster, eighth in 2:46.81.
Also, for CSB, first-year
Annabella Witschen clocked 1:45.84 in finishing third in the 600-meters. CSB had four in the top-eight including sophomore
Meaghan McDonald, who had a personal-best of 1:51.51 in grabbing fifth. Junior
Maranda Thier was sixth in 1:53.36 while first-year
Emily Koch was seventh in 1:54.31.
The Bennies placed two runners in the top-six of the 400 meters with senior
Sidela Nyuga clocking 1:02.13 for fifth while Berg was six at 1:02.93.
CSB had two of the top-nine in the 5,000-meters as first-year
Abby Bufkin was fourth in 20:35.94 with sophomore
Hailley Thompson placing nine in 21:14.72.
Senior
Haley Joos led CSB in the throws by placing seventh with a personal-best of 13.37m – 43-10.50, which ranks ninth all-time in program history. She bettered her PR of 13-07 – 42-10.75 at the Cobber Invite on Jan. 20. She also placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 11.13m – 36-06.25.
Relays – Bennies win 4x400
The Bennies placed four 4x400-meter relay squads in the top seven of the event. A relay team of K. Smith, B. Verkinnes, A. Witchen and L. Lyngen was first in a season-best 4:11.87.
A Bennies squad of Nyuga,
Emerson Knapp, Ganley and Berg was second in 4:23.29. Another CSB relay was fourth in 4:43.03 with a team of
Leah Taszarek, Thiir,
Emily Koch and T. Radaich. And CSB also placed fourth in 4:54.00 with a team of Kaster, McDonald, Van Marel and
Karoline Curlo.
CSB finished second in the 4x200 meter relay in 1:49.77 with a squad of Gallagher, T. Johnson,
Myah Nelson and Buntrock.
