ST. PAUL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict track and field team continued its stellar spring season with another impressive showing at the Janis Rider / Doug Bolstorff Invitational on April 26. The Bennies finished second overall in the team standings with 130 points, powered by a combination of event titles, personal bests, and strong depth across the board.
St. Ben's, which competes at the Hamline Meet of the Unsaintly on April 30, had 13 top-four and 20 top-six finishes on Saturday.
Junior
Lauren Berg led the way on the track, capturing a title in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.38, while sophomore
Joel Makem Ratzinger clocked a personal-best 1:10.76 to finish eighth. Another event win came from sophomore
Ava Revoir, who claimed the 400-meter dash in 1:00.17. Teammate
Emerson Knapp also cracked the top eight, finishing eighth in 1:02.96.
In the field events, sophomore
Sabriya Farquharson had a standout performance in the triple jump, placing second with a season-best 11.14 meters (36-06.75). First-year
Maggie McCabe followed closely, finishing fourth with a personal-best 10.81 meters (35-05.75).
The Bennies showed their strength in the 100-meter hurdles, where senior
Justus Floren took third in 16.07 seconds, just ahead of sophomores
Anya Adelgren (fourth, 16.19) and
Chloe Ostrem (fifth, 16.21), both posting strong season-best times.
In the 1,500-meter run, CSB showcased its depth with several personal best times.
Lucy Lyngen had a PR and led the group in third place at 4:53.49, narrowly behind senior
Kalli Smith, who finished fourth in 4:53.47 - also a PR. Junior
Mary Kenney took sixth in 4:56.26 with a PR, and first-year
Eileen O'Connor finished eighth in 5:02.91 with yet another PR.
Natalie Zielsdorf added to the team's scoring with a seventh-place finish at 5:02.31.
In the relays, the 4x100-meter team of
Grace Buntrock,
Anna Gries,
Myah Nelson, and
Justus Floren posted a season-best 49.89 seconds to place third. The 4x400-meter squad of
Brooke Verkinnes,
Mariah Brooks,
Lucy Lyngen, and
Natalie Zielsdorf finished sixth in 4:19.84.
CSB's throwers also had a strong day. In the javelin,
Parker Pollis threw a personal-best 35.05 meters (115-00) to place fourth, with senior
Catherine Ganley (31.87 meters) and sophomore
Emily Koch (personal-best 31.65 meters) placing fifth and sixth, respectively. In the shot put, first-year
Allison Banse finished seventh with a throw of 11.79 meters (38-08.25), and she also placed eighth in the discus at 36.43 meters (119-06), right behind sophomore
Christian Smith, who was seventh with 36.86 meters (120-11).
In the pole vault, junior
Jaylyn Ahlberg cleared 3.51 meters (11-06.25) to take fourth, with sophomore
Lili Raidt placing fifth at 3.36 meters (11-00.25).
In the high jump, first-year
Kiera Stommes finished third with a height of 1.50 meters (4-11), and sophomore
Samantha Brown was seventh at 1.45 meters (4-09).
Rounding out the performances, senior
Emily Tess placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 13:11.83, and first-year
Alyse Williamschen was eighth in 13:41.39. In the 800 meters, sophomore
Taylor Radaich was sixth in 2:23.18, followed by
Kalli Smith in seventh (2:24.26) and
Mariah Brooks, who ran a personal-best 2:24.31 to place eighth.
