Led by Farquharson and Gallagher, No. 8 CSB Indoor Track and Field shines at Tostrud Classic

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – In a final tune-up before the MIAC Championships, the No. 8 College of Saint Benedict indoor track and field team won five titles, had two program top-10 marks and 29 placed in the top-six at the Tostrud Classic, hosted by St. Olaf on Saturday.

In the long jump, first-year Sabriya Farquharson placed second in 5.33m – 17-06.0, a personal-best which ranks fourth all-time at Saint Benedict. Farquharson won the triple jump in 10.74m – 35-03 with a facility record. Senior Danielle Anderson was fourth in 9.53m – 31-03.25. Also in the long jump, senior Ellie Selisker was third in 5.16m – 16-11.25 while junior Justus Floren was fifth in 4.90 - 16-01 with first-year Samantha Solheid, sixth in 4.84m – 15-10.50.

For the third time this indoor season, senior Kate Gallagher set the school's 60-meter record after clocking 7.88. In December in Minneapolis, she had a 7.92 and bettered it at with a 7.89 at the CSB/SJU Invitational. Today, she finished second with the record time as four Bennies finished in the top-six. First year Grace Buntrock was third in 8.11, a personal-best. Senior Tiana Johnson placed fourth in 8.19 with sophomore Myah Nelson, sixth in 8.33, also in the 60-meters.

Sophomore Lauren Berg won the 400-meter dash with a season-best clocking of 1:01.64 while junior Emerson Knapp was fourth in 1:05.03.

Picking up the 800-meters title was junior Kalli Smith in 2:23.34. First-year Annabella Witschen was third in 2:30.02 with first-year Leah Taszarek, eighth in 2:37.35, also in the 800-meters.

Sophomore Mary Kenney captured the 3,000-meters title in a personal-best 10:43.17. In the same event, Bridget Tetmeyer finished second in 10:43.66, just .49 behind Kenney while sophomore Tatum Leibke was eighth in 11:36.45.

First-year Anya Adelgren clocked a personal-best in winning the 60-meter hurdles as she was followed by first-year Anna Kemp in fourth place at 10.15; sophomore Lauren Berg, sixth in 10.60 and sophomore Emma Schuele, seventh in 10.71.

In the pole vault, sophomore Jaylyn Ahlberg was second in 3.45m – 11-03.75 while first-year Ming Li Raidt took third in 3.25m – 10-08. 

CSB placed three in the top eight of the 200-meter dash, including senior Tiana Johnson, who was second in 27.09. Also for CSB, Buntrock was fourth in 27.34 while senior Sidela Nyuga placed eighth in 27.58.  Sophomore Brooke Verkinnes placed eighth in the 1000-meters with a 3:21.39 clocking.

Two Bennies placed in the top-six of the mile run as senior Lucy Lyngen had a personal-best of 5:20.19 in finishing fourth and first-year Taylor Radaich was sixth in 5:22.56, a personal-best as she bettered her previous mark by 13 seconds.

CSB had two of the top six squads in the 4x400-meter relay, including a third-place finish in 4:22.55 with a team of K. Smith, B. Verkinnes, L. Lynden and A. Witschen. Another CSB team included T. Radaich, Meaghan McDonald, L. Taszarek and Emily Koch, and placed sixth in 4:38.33.

In the throws, senior Haley Joos was fourth in the weight throws at 13.50m – 44-03.50, a mark which ranks eighth all-time at CSB. She was also fifth in the shot put at 11.45m – 37-06.75. First-year Christian Smith was seventh at 10.65m – 34-11.25.

In the high jump, first-year Samantha Brown was third at 1.40m – 4-07.
