ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The College of Saint Benedict track and field team had a standout performance at the Hamline Meet of the Unsaintly on Saturday. Facing tough competition from 21 programs across NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, the Bennies tallied 13 top-eight finishes, 11 personal-best marks, and 16 season-best performances, continuing their strong spring campaign.
Among the highlights of the day was junior
Mary Kenney, who delivered a career-best time of 18:07.51 in the 5,000-meter run to finish sixth overall. Her time now ranks sixth all-time in program history. First-year
Lucy Lyngen followed with a personal-best 18:26.60 for eighth place, while sophomore
Abby Bufkin took 10th in a personal-best 18:36.92, completing a strong showing for CSB in the event.
In relay action, the 4x400-meter squad of senior
Emerson Knapp, first-year
Ava Revoir, senior
Kalli Smith, and senior
Lauren Berg placed fourth in 4:06.44. Another CSB relay, made up of sophomore
Taylor Radaich, first-years
Mariah Brooks and
Natalie Gates, and junior
Brooke Verkinnes, earned fifth in 4:15.39.
Radaich also turned in an impressive solo performance in the 800-meter run, finishing with a personal-best time of 2:19.99, which ranks 15th in CSB outdoor history. Smith clocked a season-best 2:21.36 for 12th place, while Brooks ran a personal-best 2:23.41 for 14th.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, sophomore
Anabella Witschen notched a personal best of 12:03.60 to place sixth overall.
The Bennies had a solid showing in hurdles as well. Sophomore
Anya Adelgren recorded a season-best 16.04 in the 100-meter hurdles to finish 11th, just ahead of sophomore
Chloe Ostrem in 12th at 16.09. In the 400-meter hurdles, Adelgren placed 14th (1:08.84), followed by Ostrem (15th, 1:09.14) and sophomore
Joel Makem Ratzinger, who ran a personal-best 1:09.62 for 16th.
First-year
Ava Revoir competed in the 400-meter dash, finishing 11th in 59.04. In the 100-meter dash, sophomore
Grace Buntrock ran a season-best 13.00, while junior
Myah Nelson (13.07) and first-year
Anna Gries (13.09) also posted season bests to place 20th and 21st, respectively.
CSB also excelled in the jumps. In the triple jump, sophomore
Sabriya Farquharson placed fifth with a mark of 10.76 meters (35-03.75). She was followed closely by Gries, who was sixth with a season-best 10.49 meters (34-05.00), and first-year
Maggie McCabe, who was seventh at 10.48 meters (34-04.75). Farquharson also took seventh in the long jump with a leap of 5.26 meters (17-03.25).
The high jump saw three Bennies place in the top eight, led by first-year
Kiera Stommes, who cleared a personal-best 1.54 meters (5-00.50) for sixth place. Sophomore
Anna Kemp was seventh with a season-best 1.49 meters (4-10.50), and sophomore
Drea Terwedo followed in eighth at 1.44 meters (4-08.75).
In throws, senior
Catherine Ganley earned fifth in the javelin with a mark of 33.34 meters (109-04). First-year
Allison Banse added a solid finish in the shot put, placing seventh with a throw of 11.62 meters (38-01.50). In the invitational hammer throw, junior
Christian Smith placed 11th at 40.54 meters, while junior
Lexi Torres was 16th with a mark of 36.64 meters (120-02).
Rounding out the day,
Eileen O'Connor posted a personal-best 4:58.09 in the 1,500-meter run.
With the regular season concluded, the Bennies will turn their focus to postseason competition, looking to carry their momentum into the MIAC Championships which begins on May 1-2 with the multi-events at Carleton followed by the remainder of the championships on May 9-10 at Macalester in St. Paul, Minn.
