MIAC Track and Field Indoor Preview - After strong regular season, CSB Indoor squad ready for championship

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict indoor track field team, which has has had a series of standout performances so far in 2025, will compete in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championships on Feb. 27, 28 and March 1 at the Donald McNeely Spectrum in Collegeville, Minn. Saint Benedict and Saint John's will serve as hosts of the championships in 2025.

The championships will open with the pentathlon on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. . Friday's field events start at 4:00 p.m. and track events will follow at 4:30 p.m. Saturday's final session starts with field events at noon and track events an hour later. Saturday's final set of events - the men's and women's 4x400 relay - will begin at 3:55 p.m.

Daily tickets are required to attend the MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. All tickets will be sold and purchased online via HomeTown Ticketing. There will not be cash sales at the venue; however, spectators can purchase tickets using a mobile device at any time, including while at the venue. Tickets are available for purchase on the MIAC's HomeTown Ticketing site.
 
Single-day adult tickets will be $12 and student tickets are $3. (Note: additional HomeTown Ticketing convenience and credit card fees will be added during checkout, with estimated totals being $13.70 for adult / $4.43 for student per single-day ticket.) Children ages five and under do not require a ticket. Those eligible for student tickets include individuals currently enrolled in college, high school, middle school, and elementary school. Student ID is required where applicable.
 
Two-day passes will also be available. Two-day adult tickets are $27 and two-day student tickets are $9. (Note: multi-day passes include a required $3 HomeTown Ticket multi-day pass fee; additional convenience and credit card fees will be added during checkout, with estimated totals being $28.12 for adult / $9.58 for student student per two-day ticket.)

St. Ben's Review - Notes 
St. Benedict, directed by veteran head coach Robin Balder-Lanoue, finished with a program-best 120 points and second place in team standings at the MIAC Championships in 2024. CSB, which had 10 All-MIAC performances and five titles, recorded the highest finish by Saint Benedict since back-to-back second place results in 2016 and 2017. However, the 120 points by CSB is the most since scoring 122 in 2014. With 10 All-MIAC efforts, CSB tied the 2023 indoor team for the most All-MIAC performances in program history, and recorded five titles, 22 top-eight finishes, with four records (school/facility/championship). As a result, CSB finished second behind Bethel, who scored 158 points.   

Saint Benedict has finished fifth or better in the MIAC Indoor Championship for each of the past three seasons, accumulating 99 points in 2023 and 94 in 2022. Eighteen times in program history, the Bennies have placed fifth or better with the highest finish the second-place results in 2024 (120 points), 2017 (101.33 points), 2016 (101.2 points), 2014 (122 points), 2011 (107 points). Each of those seasons and every year since 1999, the Bennies have been directed by Balder-Lanoue. CSB has competed in the MIAC championships every year since 1988.

The Pentathlon, which opens competition on Thursday, will feature three CSB student-athletes in Maisy Komastu, Emily Koch and Justus Floren. Floren was fourth in the pentathlon a year ago to earn All-MIAC honorable mention honors after recording 2,963 points. A year ago, Floren had her third straight top-four finish at the MIAC indoor pentathlon in three years.  Floren was third in each of the previous two years.

The Bennies have one student-athlete, Jaylyn Ahlberg, ranked No. 1 and she is the defending champion in the pole vault. Sophomore Sabriya Farquharson is ranked second in the long jump and triple jump while junior Lauren Berg has a pair of fourth place rankings in the 600-meter and 800-meter events. Justus Floren, who was fourth in the MIAC pentathlon a year ago,  is ranked fifth in the 60-meter hurdles. In the 4x400-meter relay, the Bennies ranks third.
