ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The final weekend in April is another busy one for the College of Saint Benedict athletic department.
The Blazer softball and golf teams wrap up their seasons, tennis ends the regular season and track and field continues to gear up for the MIAC Championships, which are the second weekend in May.
The CSB softball team is the only one at home this weekend. The Blazers wrap up 2015 with a MIAC doubleheader against St. Olaf College. The first game starts at 1 p.m. Saturday on the CSB campus. The Blazers enter the weekend 21-17 overall and 10-10 and in sixth in the conference. The top four teams make the conference tournament, which is May 1-2.
The Blazers head into Saturday coming off their second straight conference sweep. CSB beat Carleton 11-3 in a pair of games Wednesday in Northfield.
Melissa Seldon had a big day as she finished 6-for-8 with six RBIs and picked up the win in game two.
Taylor Ellingson was the winning pitcher in the first game. St. Olaf is 14-24 overall and 9-11 in the MIAC and is coming off a pair of losses to St. Thomas Thursday.
The CSB tennis team wraps up the regular season with a pair of MIAC matches. The Blazers are at Hamline at noon Saturday and take on Gustavus at noon Sunday in St. Peter. There is one spot left in the six-team MIAC tournament field. CSB enters the weekend sitting in sixth with a 4-4 conference record. The Blazers are looking to bounce back from a pair of losses last weekend after falling to St. Olaf and St. Kate's.
Rachel Raden and
Daley Rupar picked up CSB's lone win at No. 1 doubles against St. Olaf, and
Ellen Stensrud's win at No. 6 singles was the Blazers' only victory against St. Kate's.
Saturday and Sunday mark the final tournament of the season for the Blazer golf team. CSB is at the Northfield Invite, which starts at 12:30 p.m. both days at the Northfield Golf Course. This tournament marks the final collegiate event for
Bridget Cummings,
Grace Todora,
Jenna Traut and
Annalise Wallerich. CSB's JV team took fourth last weekend at the Bethel Invite, and the varsity squad finished third at the MIAC Open on April 11-12.
The CSB track team is looking to make the most of its final two warm ups before the conference championships, and one of those opportunities is Saturday at the Macalester Invite. The Blazers are coming off a successful performance at St. Olaf last weekend. The Blazers had four individual winners and five times or marks in the top 10 in school history.
