EDINA, Minn. - The College of Saint Benedict golf team concluded the first of three rounds of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships Friday, Oct. 2. The Bennies shot a 30-over 318 on the par 72 5,691-yard Braemar Golf Course and sit in seventh place after the first day.
First-year Hallie Johnson (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing) made the most of the first championship round of her career, as she fired a two-over to finish in a tie for seventh. Junior
Kenna Henriksen (Olivia, Minn./BOLD) recorded a six-over 78, putting her in a tie for 16th. Junior
Sophia Anderson (Albany, Minn./Albany Area) shot a nine-over 81, as she wraps up day one in a tie for 29th.
St. Catherine University leads the field after firing a six-over 294, leading the field by eight strokes. Macalester College is second at 14-over 302, while Carleton College rounds out the top-three with a day one score of 19-over 307.
Caylin Cantwell from St. Kate's shot an impressive five-under 67 to top the 45-player field, holding a three-stroke lead in the race. Four players finished with a below-par round.
