Bennies Bump up to Sixth at MIAC Golf Championships

Johnson & Henriksen sit inside top-15

EDINA, Minn. - The second day of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championships faired better for the College of Saint Benedict Golf team, as the Bennies shaved off five strokes from yesterday's opening round to slide up one spot into sixth Saturday, Oct. 3. CSB shot a 25-over 313 on the par 72, 5,691 Braemar Golf Course, entering the final round five shots outside of the top-four. 
 
Junior Kenna Henriksen (Olivia, Minn./BOLD) led the team with a four-over 76, as she moved up one spot into a tie for 15th-place. Henriksen hit the turn at even on the day, as she shot three straight birdies on holes 6-8 to counter a trio of birdies across the first nine. First-year Hallie Johnson (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing) remains the top Bennie in the standings, as she sits in a tie for 10th. Johnson finished with a second-round score of seven-over 79.  
 
Junior Sophia Anderson (Albany, Minn./Albany Area) and sophomore Layla Mathews (Becker, Minn./Becker) also fired seven-over 79s on the day. Anderson enters the final day in a tie for 21st, while Mathews moved up eight spots to sit tied for 28th. Junior Avery Maus (Kimble, Minn./Kimble Area) improved two spots after a 10-over 82, just one stroke shy of her career-low. Maus registered an eagle in the round, coming on the sixth hole of the day.  
 
St. Catherine continues to lead the field, recording a three-over 219 to enter the final day with a 24-stroke gap. Macalester stays in second after a second-round score of 307. Gustavus Adolphus College rounds out the top-three after matching its opening round of 20-over 308. Caylin Cantwell of St. Kate's remains at the top of the leaderboard, as she fired a three-under 69 to stretch her weekend total to eight-under par. Cantwell holds a six-stroke lead in the race for the individual championship.  
 
The final round of the championship will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4. Maus will be the first Bennie to tee off at 10:50 a.m.
