Farquharson and Berg set school records to lead CSB Track and Field to 5th place at MIAC Championships

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Led by a school record and title-winning performance by Sabriya Farquharson in the triple jump as well as a school record and All-MIAC effort from Lauren Berg in the 400-meter hurdles, the College of Saint Benedict finished fifth (102.5 points) in the team standings as the MIAC Outdoor Championships wrapped up on Saturday in St. Paul, Minn.

Hosted by Macalester, Gustavus Adolphus finished first in the team standings with 170.5 points with Concordia-Moorhead, second, 140 points; Bethel, third, 131.5 points; St. Olaf, fourth, 118 points; and St. Ben's, fifth. Overall, the Bennies finished with six All-MIAC efforts, 13 honorable mention All-MIAC finishes, two school records, and seven top-10 program marks.

Farquharson won CSB's second title of the meet by breaking the school record with a leap of 11.76m – 38-07, which surpassed the mark of BriAnn Erpelding in 1997 of 11.57m – 37-11.5. With that career-best mark, she has the 19th best triple jump in NCAA DIII. The Bennies had three student-athletes place in the top six of the triple jump, including first-year Anna Gries, who placed fifth with a personal-best of 10.82m – 35-06, a mark tied for 11th all-time (Bridget Schletty, 10.82m, 2000). In sixth-place was first-year Maggie McCabe at 10.74m – 35-04 (15th all-time at CSB).

Junior Lauren Berg also set a school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a clocking of 1:02.18, which was a career-best and the No. 18th time in NCAA DIII. She surpassed the time of Megan Sundstrom, who had a time of 1:02.42 in 2017. CSB also scored points in the 400-meter hurdles from sophomore Chloe Ostrem, who was eighth in 1:08.30.

Junior Mary Kenney earned All-MIAC honors by finishing third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal-best and third-best clocking in school history of 11:17.98.  The Bennies placed three in the top-eight of the 3,000-meter steeplechase, including a sixth-place finish and personal-best of 11:23.77 from senior Kalli Smith as she earned honorable mention All-MIAC honors. Smith's time ranks fifth all-time in program history. Placing eighth with a personal-best was sophomore Julia Babineau, who finished in 12:00.14 with a time that ranks 17th in program history.

First-year Allison Banse earned her second honorable mention All-MIAC performance and nearly broke a school record in the discus throw. She finished fourth with a throw of 39.82 – 130-07. With her career-best mark, she ranks second in program history to Maggie Beckman at 40.42m – 132-07 in 2023.

Sophomore Taylor Radaich earned honorable mention All-MIAC honors by placing fifth in the 800-meter with a personal best of 2:19.39, a mark that is 14th in program history.

First-year Kiera Stommes earned honorable mention All-MIAC honors by placing fifth in the high jump  at 1.49m – 4-10.50. Sophomore Anna Kemp was ninth in the high jump at 1.44m – 4-08.75.

Lucy Lyngen earned honorable mention All-MIAC honors by placing sixth in the 5,000-meter with a clocking of 18:30.50. Also in the 5,000-meter, CSB had an eighth-place finish from Kenney, who finished in 18:36.68.

CSB's 4x100-meter relay, which included Grace Buntrock, Anna Gries, Myah Nelson and Justus Floren, was honorable mention All-MIAC with a sixth-place finish and a season-best time of 49.32. The Bennies also placed sixth with an honorable mention All-MIAC performance in the 4x400-meter relay by clocking a season-best 4:02.10, which ranks 10th in program history. CSB's 4x400 relay included Emerson Knapp, Ava Revoir, Kalli Smith and Lauren Berg.

In the hammer throw, sophomore Christian Smith recorded a personal-best in placing 12th with a throw of 43.18m – 141-08.00.
