Mary Morris breaks school record and has 2 All-MIAC efforts to earn St. Cloud Orthopedics/CSB Athlete of the Week

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- Sophomore Mary Morris of the College of Saint Benedict swim and dive team, who set a school record and earned two All-MIAC honors as well as a honorable mention All-MIAC relay honor, has been named the St. Cloud Orthopedics / CSB Athlete of the Week.

Morris, MaryMorris, who was part of four individual events or relays performances that ranked in CSB's all-time top 10, had an exceptional effort at the MIAC Championships in which CSB placed sixth with 320 points.

On Saturday at the MIAC Championships, Morris placed second to earn All-MIAC honors while breaking the school record in the 200 backstroke with a clocking of 2:03.90. Her mark, which was just .12 out of first place, bettered the school mark of 2:04.49 by Ana Birklid in 2022.

She also earned All-MIAC honors in the 200 free, clocking a career-best 1:55.46 in placing second. It is a time that ranks fifth all-time in school history. On Thursday, Morris also placed eighth in the 50-free by clocking 24.61 in the finals but had a season-best mark of 24.52 in the prelims.

In addition to her individual performances, she played a key role as the Bennies had outstanding efforts in several relays. The 400 medley relay of Morris, Rachel Schlueter, Megan Bartels, and Claire Canfield place fifth with a time of 3:58.47, a mark that ranks second in school history, just behind the 3:56.57 mark in 2022 (Slavik, Birklid, Milstroh, Wagner). 

Morris was also a member of the 400 free relay with Liz Hansen, Canfield and Schlueter which finished fourth in 3:38.16 and earned All-MIAC honorable mention honors. Morris led the 200-freestyle relay to fifth place with a season-best clocking of 1:39.66. Besides Morris, the team included Hansen, Schlueter and Jayda Alholm. And, Morris helped the 200-medley relay, which also included Schlueter, Bartels and Canfield, finish sixth in a season-best 1:48.25. It was a performance that ranked fourth all-time at the school and just .14 from third (2014, Roberts, Tormanen, Peterson, Bierman, 1:48.11).
