Mission

The Saint Benedict athletic training room will provide high-quality care in a comfortable, professional environment for all 11 intercollegiate athletic teams, and all club and intramural sports at CSB. This medical care includes, but is not limited to, the prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and education for all student-athletes at CSB.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Certified Athletic Trainers
A certified athletic trainer is nationally certified under the National Athletic Trainer's Association Board of Certification. An example of roles of CSB's certified athletic trainers provide are as follows. To prevent athletic injuries; to recognize, evaluate, and assess those injuries; to treat, rehabilitate, and recondition injuries; and manage health care administration/ inventory.

The CSB Sports Medicine staff consists of Licensed Athletic Trainers and Sports Medicine Assistants (SMAs). Our staff provides on-site medical coverage to our intercollegiate, and club team practices and game/meets.

The athletic trainers at CSB work closely with physical therapists and orthopedic surgeons from St. Cloud Orthopedics to ensure that each student-athlete is receiving the proper treatment. The athletic trainers may refer student-athletes to general practitioners and/or CSB Health Services per circumstances.

All Student Athletes (Club and Intercollegiate) are required to take care of the following FOUR items:

  1. Front Rush NCAA & Club Sport Compliance Forms
  2. Pre-Participation Examination Form & Sickle Cell Testing Results
  3. ATS (Athletic Trainer System – For Medical Records)
  4. SWAY Concussion Baseline Testing
  • Front Rush:
    • New and Returning NCAA and Club Athletes will be getting an email from Nicole Hess (intercollegiate athletes) or Steve Kimble (club athletes) with information to complete your Front Rush forms.
      • Please complete all forms on Front Rush as soon as you receive that email. (ALWAYS CHECK YOUR JUNK FOLDER)
        • Acknowledgment of Insurance Requirement
        • Injury and Illness Reporting
        • Drugs and Supplements Acknowledgment
        • Sickle Cell Trait
    • You will NOT practice if these forms are not completed.
      • Please note: you will be required to upload your health insurance card/information in Front Rush.
      • It is always highly recommended that all student-athletes at CSB carry their own copy of their health insurance card.
  • Physical Examination Evaluation:
    • First Year or Transfer Athletes will need to have a pre-participation physical completed in order to complete the “Physical Examination Evaluation” portion of the requirements.
    • Please contact your primary care provider as soon as possible to schedule this appointment.
      • Email the physical once completed or turn into the CSB Sports Medicine Department
      • Please note: Sickle cell testing is now required for all incoming classes starting in 2022.
    • Returning NCAA and Club Athletes that participated at CSB last year, do NOT need a new Physical Evaluation completed.
  • ATS:
    • First Year or Transfer Athletes are required to upload specific information to an online portal (ATS).
      • This is an electronic medical system for the Sports Medicine Department.
    • Directions on how to do so are within the PDF linked above (Athlete Eligibility Instructions).
      • Please note: you will be required to upload your health insurance card/information in ATS.
        • It is always highly recommended that all student-athletes at CSB carry their own copy of their health insurance card.
    • Returning NCAA and Club Athletes should already have an ATS account – therefore, it is not necessary to make a new account.
    • However, you are required to log on, double check that your information is accurate (contact info, insurance, medical history, etc.) and update your standing (i.e., sophomore, junior, senior).
  • SWAY
    • I need to have you all complete a baseline concussion test with me before your first team activity if you have not ever completed a SWAY Concussion test with me, a transfer or a First Year ONLY
      • On your cell phone download the “SWAY Medical” App– its light blue with 4 white rectangular boxes stacked up
      • Create a profile with the Group Code_________________ (ask Athletic Trainer)
      • This will take 15 minutes TOPS!
      • You may make an appointment with me or a SMA (sports medicine assistant) and complete this in the ATR or you may do this on your own in a quiet spot alone.
