Hansen, Morris, Canfield and Schlueter named to CSC Swim & Dive Academic All-District Team

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Four members College of Saint Benedict swim and dive team have earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, including senior Liz Hansen, junior Rachel Schlueter, and sophomores Mary Morris and Claire Canfield.

CSC recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced April 22. 

Each of the honorees recently received all-conference recognition from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference following the swim and dive championships on Feb. 19-22. The four CSB swimmers helped St. Benedict finish sixth at the MIAC Championship.

 
Morris, Mary
Mary Morris
Morris, a sophomore biochemistry major from St. Cloud, Minn. (St. Cloud HS), earned two All-MIAC honors and was honorable mention All-MIAC as part of the 400 free relay. She Morris placed second to earn All-MIAC honors while breaking the school record in the 200 backstroke with a clocking of 2:03.90. Her mark, which was just .12 out of first place, bettered the school mark of 2:04.49 by Ana Birklid in 2022. She earned All-MIAC honors in the 200 free, clocking a career-best 1:55.46 in placing second. It is a time that ranks fifth all-time in school history. Morris placed eighth in the 50 freestyle by clocking 24.61.   In addition to her individual performances, she played a key role as the Bennies' 400 free relay picked up All-MIAC honorable mention honors by placing fourth in 3:38.16. She was also part of the 200 freestyle relay that placed fifth and the 200 medley relay that placed sixth in 1:48.25. Morris earned honorable mention All-MIAC honors in 2023-24 by placing fourth in the 200 backstroke and sixth in the 200 freestyle.

Liz Hansen
Hansen, a senior exercise and health science major from Stillwater, Minn. (Mahtomedi HS), was a member of the 400 free relay that earned All-MIAC honorable mention honors. She was named to the Academic All-MIAC team in 2023-24. This year, she had a season-best clocking of 25.83 in the 50 free at the MIAC Championship. Hansen also was a member of CSB's 200 free style relay that placed fifth in 1:39.66. She serves a member of CSB Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

 
Schlueter, Rachel
Rachel Schlueter
Schlueter, a junior exercise major from Elk River, Minn. (Spectrum HS), earned All-MIAC honors by finishing third in the 50 freestyle with a clocking of 24.16, which was not only a career-best but ranks fourth all-time at CSB (Brita Skalbeck, 2012, 24.22). In the 100 backstroke, she was seventh in 59.21 but clocked 57.92 in the prelims. She also was honorable mention All-MIAC as a member of the 400 free relay. She swam on the 200 freestyle relay that placed fifth and the 200 medley relay that was sixth (1:48.25) at the MIAC meet.  Schlueter was named Academic All-MIAC in 2023-24. A year ago, Schlueter was All-MIAC as a member of the 200 freestyle which placed second at the conference meet. She was honorable mention all conference in the 200 medley relay (4th).

 
Canfield, Claire
Claire Canfield
Canfield, a sophomore chemistry major from Waconia, Minn. (Waconia HS), earned three total honorable mention All-MIAC honors. Along with the 400 free relay, she placed fifth in the 200-backstroke with a career-best clocking of 2:07.26, a mark that ranks fifth all-time in CSB program history. She placed fifth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:42.73. It was a career-best mark by Canfield, who had a second top-10 time in CSB school history with her performance ranking eighth in school history. Canfield had a standout effort in the 200 IM in which she placed seventh of 2:12.14, a season-best mark. Additionally, Canfield was a member of the 200 medley relay that placed sixth (1:48.25) at the conference meet. In 2023-24, Canfield was also honorable mention All-MIAC in the 200 backstroke (5th). She serves a member of CSB Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
