CSB Swim and Dive wins 2 events in dual loss to DII St. Cloud State

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Led by Rachel Schlueter and Claire Canfield, the College of Saint Benedict swim and dive team had two wins and recorded seven top three finishes in dropping a dual meet to NCAA DII St. Cloud State, 206-82, at the Warner Palaestra Pool.

Junior Rachel Schlueter won the 100 backstroke in 1:01.91 with first-year Maddie Stutelberg, sixth, 1:09.45 and sophomore Anna Boomgaarden, seventh, 1:15.41.  Schlueter was second in the 100 freestyle in 56.07. Liz Hansen placed eighth in the same event in 58.22.

The Bennies also claimed a victory in the 200-freestyle relay by clocking 1:44.96, which was just off its season-best of 1:44.53 at the Rochester Invite. CSB had a team of senior Liz Hansen, sophomore Jayda Alholm, Schlueter and sophomore Claire Canfield. In the relay, the Bennies took the top four places with its second-place team, clocking 1:50.64 with junior Mikayla Haskamp, junior Megan Bartels, first-year Grace Morphew and first-year Ava Niksich.

Sophomore Claire Canfield had a pair of second place finishes. She led a second and third place finish for CSB in the 200 butterfly. Canfield clocked 2:28.37 with first-year Autumn Larson, third, 2:37.41. In the 200 backstroke Canfield was second in 2:16.09 while sophomore Emma Neely, third, 2:40.12.

CSB had a third-place finish from Bartels in 2:41.36 and a fourth-place finish by first-year Alivia Kortuem in 2:46.82 in the 200 breaststroke.

In the 200 medley, CSB was fourth at 1:55.37 with a squad of Schlueter, Bartels, Canfield and Liz Hansen. The Bennies also took sixth at 2:05.65 with a team of Neely, Jayda Alholm, Larson and Niksich.

In the 50 free, first-year Grace Morphew clocked 27.67 for fifth as four Bennies placed fifth through eighth. First-year Millie Pratt was sixth in 27.72; Haskamp, seventh in 28.28; and Stutelberg, eighth, 28.30.

First-year Natalie Pfau placed second in the 1,000 freestyle in 12:14.53 while junior Morgan Stout placed third in 12:18.16. Also in the distance races, Niksich was fifth in the 5:53.11 in the 500-freestyle while Pfau was sixth in 5:57.88; Stout, seventh in 5:58.22; and sophomore Josey Jackson, eighth, 6:06.41.

Kortuem was also fourth in the 100-butterfly at 1:06.77 with Pratt, fifth in 1:07.83; and Larson, sixth, 1:08.76.

Hansen placed fifth with a personal-best 1:13.69 and Alholm was seventh in 1:17.81 in the 100 breaststroke.

Alholm was fifth in 2:28.68 and Boomgarden, sixth, 2:41.26 in the 200 IM.

In the 200 freestyle, CSB's Niksich was eighth in 2:10.89.

In the diving competition, sophomore Ella Kowalczyk led the way for CSB. She was fifth on the 3-meter board with 191.35 points with senior Sabrina Buffetta at 177.30 in sixth place and first-year Abby Stevens, eighth at 172.15.

On the one-meter board, CSB was led by Kowalcyzk, who was 6th at 178.06 with Buffetta, 7th, 170.65; and first-year Emma Netland, 8th, 160.00.

Next on the schedule for CSB will be a dual with Carleton on Jan. 25 in Northfield, Minn.
