COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict swim and dive team started its dual season out strong Friday and Saturday with a 177-119 win over Macalester.
The two teams competed in the swimming events Friday night at the Warner Palaestra Pool in Collegeville, and the divers competed Saturday afternoon in St. Paul.

Molly Johanson and senior
Ana Birklid both picked up a pair of individual wins to pace CSB's swimmers. Johanson won the 1,000 free in 11:48.53 and also won the 400 IM in 4:55.88. Birklid won both the 200 free (2:00.57) and the 500 free (5:28.19). Junior diver
Emily Quill was also a two-time winner as she swept the one- and three-meter competition Saturday. She won the one-meter (six-dive) competition with a 214.60, and later won the three-meter competition with a score of 224.65.
Jessica Milstroh picked up a win in the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.84, and also took second in the 100 fly in 1:02.92. Teammates
Maria Beck and
Emi Wagner took second and third, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.13 and 1:15.91. Beck picked up a win in the 200 breaststroke in 2:47.04 and
Kate Mechels took second in 2:54.17.
Madison Slavik won the 100 backstroke for the Bennies, finishing in 1:01.32.
Fiona Rosko picked up a win in the 200 fly in 2:15.92, and
Lindsay Smutka won the 200 backstroke in 2:18.63. Smutka, Rosko, Milstroh and Birklid teamed up to win the 400 medley relay in 4:10.62, and Smutka,
Riley Engle, Wagner and Birklid won the 400 free relay in 3:44.22.
Smutka also took second in the 100 back in 1:01.80, and Wagner finished second in the 50 free in 25.82 seconds.
Izzy Sonday took second behind Johanson in the 1,000 free in 12:12.47, and Rosko picked up a third-place finish in the 100 fly in 1:03.47.
Laura Jennings took third in the 200 fly in 2:23.71 and
Caroline DiCesare finished third in the 200 back in 2:27.56.
The Bennies are back in the pool Saturday, Nov. 6, when they head to Northfield for a MIAC dual against St. Olaf. That meet starts at 1 p.m. on the St. Olaf campus.
