CoSIDA Release
ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Twice during her senior season,
Allison Kosobud made it to the biggest stage that Division III track and field has to offer.
Now, Kosobud – who graduated from the College of Saint Benedict in May – earned a spot on one of the most prestigious academic teams in the country.
Kosobud, who earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors earlier this spring, learned Wednesday afternoon that she is one of 45 athletes from across Division III to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. Kosobud, a Brainerd native, earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team.
This is the first CoSIDA Academic All-America honor for Kosobud, and the first for the CSB track and field team since Alexis Brunner earned a spot on the second team in 1996. Kosobud joins Brunner and Katy Deignan – who earned CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team honors in 1993 – as the only three Saint Benedict track athletes to earn the prestigious academic honor. Kosobud is the first CSB athlete in any sport to earn the honor since
Lexi Alm was named to the third team in softball in 2014.
Kosobud is also one of just two MIAC athletes on any of the three CoSIDA Academic All-America teams. Macalester senior Kimber Meyer was named to the first team.
Kosobud's latest honor comes as a result of both her performance in the classroom and on the track. She finished her senior year with a 3.90 GPA and graduated with an individualized natural science major. She earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors in cross country earlier this season, and was named CSB's 2017 Presidential Award winner in early May.
On the track, Kosobud wrapped up her four-year career with the CSB track and field team at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in May where she finished 12
th in the 800. She earned All-American honors at the indoor national meet after taking fifth in the 800, and won a pair of MIAC titles as a senior. In cross country, Kosobud earned All-MIAC and All-Region honors, and ran the seventh-best 5K and 6K time in school history in her senior season.
Kosobud graduates as a five-time national qualifier, nine-time All-MIAC athlete and six-time All-Region honoree. She holds seven CSB track and field records, and made the Dean's List in each of her four years at CSB.
