Jordyn Swoboda named CSB Athlete of the Week (4/12/21)

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Jordyn Swoboda did a number on opposing pitchers over the weekend.

Swoboda – who batted cleanup for the College of Saint Benedict softball team all weekend – did such a number that she drew as many walks as she had hits, and her on-base and slugging percentage were off the charts as she helped the Bennies sweep both Carleton and Gustavus.

For her big weekend, Swoboda is this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week.

Swoboda set the tone for herself and her teammates for the weekend by hitting a solo home run in her first at-bat of the game Saturday against Carleton. She added a double in the third inning and a second solo homer in the top of the sixth to finish that first game 3-for-3 with four runs scored and two RBIs.

In the second game, Swoboda didn’t get the chance to add to that impressive total. She drew three walks and reached on an error, and scored one of the team’s seven runs to complete the sweep.

Swoboda – the team’s starting left fielder – was at it again Sunday against Gustavus. She singled in the first inning and drew a walk in the fifth, and came around to score both times as CSB beat the Gusties 15-0 in five innings. She added a single, a double, a walk and another run scored in the final game of the weekend – a 4-0 shutout against Gustavus.

When all was said and done, Swoboda finished the weekend batting .600 with six hits in 10 at-bats. She had two doubles, two homers and two RBIs and drew six walks for an on-base percentage of .750 and a slugging percentage of 1.400. She also stole three bases and recorded one putout from left field.

Swoboda is second on the team with a .404 batting average, tied for second with 19 hits and is second on the team with five doubles.

Swoboda and her teammates return to action Thursday, April 15, when they host Bethel in a key MIAC matchup starting at 3:30 p.m. at the Outdoor Athletic Complex.
