ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Rain and cold temperatures may have spoiled the outdoor portion of Aidan McLoone’s collegiate track and field outdoor debut, but she didn’t let it get in the way of her performance.
McLoone won the long and triple jump Saturday for the College of Saint Benedict track and field team at the Bennies’ first home outdoor meet since March 2019. For her impressive performances, she is this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week.
The jumps were competed indoors at the McNeely Spectrum Saturday because of the rain, but McLoone didn’t let that slow her down. She started the day by picking up the second win of her CSB career – and first since January 2020 – in the long jump. Her mark of 5.13 meters won the event by nearly half a meter, and also marked a personal-best for McLoone for both indoors and outdoors.
The sophomore jumper was just as impressive in the triple jump, winning once again by half of a meter with a mark of 10.54 meters. McLoone’s winning mark was a season-best mark of more than half a meter, and just shy of her all-time collegiate best of 10.57 meters.
Not only were McLoone’s marks good enough to win Saturday afternoon, they also leave her near the top of the MIAC and in the top 50 in Division III. McLoone is currently ranked first in the MIAC in triple jump and second in long jump, and her marks are both 35
th in Division III.
McLoone and her teammates are back in action and back at home Friday, April 2, when they host the CSB/SJU Easter Weekend Meet starting at noon at SJU. Live stats will be available, and spectator policy will be announced later this week.
