ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – In just her second meet of her first season with the College of Saint Benedict golf team in Spring 2021, Emily Renner found her groove and recorded back-to-back-to-back scores in the 70s to wrap up her season at the MIAC Championships.
Two meets into her sophomore season with the program, she seems to have found her groove again.
Renner picked up her first collegiate tournament win over the weekend after shooting a career-best 36-hole score of 152. For her impressive performance, she is this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week.
Renner – who carded a 77 in the second round of CSB’s home invite on Sept. 5 and finished tied for eighth – started off the weekend with a career-low 75 Saturday at Mill Run Golf Course in Eau Claire, Wis. That score is tied for the fifth-best 18-hole individual score in program history, and placed her in a tie for third after the first round.
The second round was played at the Eau Claire Golf and Country Club – a longer, tougher course – but that didn’t phase Renner. She shot a 77 to finish with a two-round total of 152 and tied for first with UW-Eau Claire’s Lexi Meade. Her two-round total is tied for fourth best in program history.
Not only was Renner’s first-round score a career-best, it was also part of one of the best 18-hole team scores in program history. The Bennies finished the first 18 holes with a team score of 316 – tied for the ninth-best score in CSB golf history. The team finished with its first win since Sept. 8, 2019, when it won the Cobber Invite at Moorhead Country Club.
Renner and her teammates are back in action Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 18-19, when they head to Emerald Greens Golf Course in Hastings for the D3 Midwest Classic.
