CSB Athletics announces "Athletes of the Year" nominees

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – During 2024-25, the College of Saint Benedict athletic department had a year of success and celebration while making history in nearly every sport.

Leading the way was 12 CSB "Athlete of the Year" nominees, who contributed significantly to the success of teams in exhibiting leadership while excelling in competition as well as the classroom. This group includes: Sabriya Farquharson, outdoor track and field; Justus Floren, indoor track and field; Catherine Jance, golf; Sophia Jonas, basketball and tennis; Lucy Lyngen, cross country; Mary Morris, swimming and diving; Ava Mosley, lacrosse; Bryn Ruhberg, softball; Audrey Spolidoro, volleyball; Jenna Timm, hockey; and Alli Voss, soccer.

The award recipient will be announced on Wednesday, June 26.

Outdoor Track and Field – Sabriya Farquharson
A native of Nassau, Bahamas, Farquharson of the College of Saint Benedict track and field team was All-MIAC and earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors in the triple jump. Farquharson won the MIAC title in the event with a personal-best mark of 11.76 meters (38-07), surpassing the previous school record of 11.57 meters (37-11.5) set by BriAnn Erpelding in 1997. Farquharson's victory was instrumental in helping the Bennies finish fifth as a team with 102.5 points at the MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in St. Paul, Minn. CSB concluded the meet with an impressive showing: two individual titles, six All-MIAC honors, 13 honorable mention finishes, two school records, and seven performances that rank among the top 10 in program history. Farquharson earned her MIAC outdoor title—she previously claimed the long jump crown in 2024—and her third overall, including an indoor triple jump title in 2025. Additionally, she has earned All-MIAC recognition in the indoor long jump (2024) and received honorable mention honors in the triple jump both indoors and outdoors in 2024.

Indoor Track and Field – Justus Floren

A senior nursing major, from Sauk Rapids, Minn. Floren recorded her third career All-MIAC performance and finished second in the pentathlon indoors at the MIAC Championship. She recorded her second-best career mark in the pentathlon with 3,281 points, just off her best total of 3,288 in 2023 for third all-time at CSB. However, Floren's point total was the best by a St. Ben's student-athlete at the indoor MIAC Championship since Jenna Degen had 3,326 points in winning her second MIAC pentathlon title in 2019. She finished wtih three All-MIAC and one All-MIAC honorable mention performances in the pentathlon in her career at CSB. Aside from her runner-up finish 2025, she was second with 3,064 points in 2022; third in 2023 with 3,097 points and fourth in 2024 with 2,963 points. In the pentathlon she recorded a jump of 5.52M – 18-01, a mark which tied Julia Renner for second all-time at CSB (5.52, 2011) and was just .02 away from the record of 5.54M-18.2.11 by Patti Clintsman in 2005. Also, indoors she earned All-MIAC honors by clocking 9.19 in finishing second in the 60-meter hurdles, a mark that ranks third all-time at CSB. She also won the heptathlon outdoors in 2023 with 4,409 points with the third best performance all-time at St. Ben's and, in 2025, finished second outdoors in the MIAC Heptathlon with 4,451 points (3rd all-time at CSB). In her career, Floren has eight All-MIAC honors and eight honorable mention All-MIAC performances for 16 total MIAC honors.

Golf – Catherine Jance

A junior biochemistry and pre-medicine major from Hopkins, Minn., Jance earned All-MIAC honors during a stellar season, highlighted by her 23rd place finish of 33-over par, 249 (85-82-82) at the MIAC Championships at St. Cloud Golf Club on September 30. Her consistent play contributed to the Bennies' sixth-place team finish with a cumulative score of 160-over par, 1,024 (340-342-342). With this honor, Jance is the 46th golfer in CSB history to earn All-MIAC recognition. The program has now produced an All-MIAC golfer for five consecutive seasons and in 14 of the past 15 years. Jance's success extended into the spring season, where she added to her accolades by winning back-to-back individual titles—becoming just the second golfer in program history to do so. On April 19, she claimed the top spot at the Rumble at the Ridge with a one-over par 73 at Oneka Ridge Golf Course in White Bear Lake, Minn., matching her career-best round. She followed up with another standout showing at the Gustavus Spring Invite at the Emerald Greens Golf Course in Hastings, Minn., on April 12-13, by posting rounds of 74 and 73 for a career-low 147 and her second consecutive title. Jance joined Kathryn Hauff Dehn—a 2024 CSB Athletics Hall of Fame inductee who accomplished the feat in 2010—as the only two golfers in program history to win consecutive events. She also earned the MIAC Golf Athlete of the Week on April 22. Over the season, Jance led the team with a scoring average of 80.2 across 16 rounds, tallying 1,283 total strokes. She recorded two individual wins, three top 10 finishes, and notched five of the team's top seven rounds of the year—including two career-low rounds of 73.

Basketball/Tennis – Sophia Jonas

Jonas, an accounting major from Hudson, Wis., was named the most outstanding player in both basketball and tennis. A three-time All-MIAC honoree in basketball and also All-MIAC in tennis during her career, she was presented the Presidential Award for excelling in the classroom, in competition and as an inspirational leader in the greater community in May, 2025. A two-sport standout, Jonas was the first CSB student athlete in history to earn five College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, including three in basketball and twice in tennis. On the basketball court, she was a four-year starter and three-time All-MIAC selection who broke the CSB and MIAC career record for three-pointers with 264. In 2024-25, Jonas averaged 12.1 points (327 total), 3.6 rebounds (96 total) and 2.2 assists (59 total). He hit 71 three-pointers this season and 111 total field goals in starting all 27 games for CSB. Jonas had 18 double-digit scoring games and had 62 in her career with a total of eight 20-point or better games (two in 2024-25). She scored a total of 1,154 points, ranking her 12th all-time in program history. Jonas earned All-MIAC honors for the third straight year as just the 13th player in school history to achieve that feat. In tennis she held down spots at both No. 1 singles and doubles in leading the team to a 7-11 overall record. She has earned Academic All-MIAC honors on multiple occasions.  In addition, she played a key role on the school's student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC), serving as co-president and helping spearhead efforts to prioritize mental health initiatives on campus, stock local food shelves and more.

A graduate student in the school of Theology from Rogers, Minn., Lyngen earned honorable mention All-MIAC honors with her top 25 finish. In clocking 24:39 to grab 24th place, Lyngen opened with 11:38.4 through 3,000-meters. In fall 2024, Lyngen had a personal-best and the 29th best clocking in program history with a 6K time of 23:27.5 at the Augustana Interregional Invite on Oct. 19. The result came 10 days after Lyngen set the program 4K record of 14:45.7 at the Bob Waxlax Invitational on Oct. 9. During her time at CSB, she had six Academic All-MIAC honors. In outdoor track and field, she was honorable mention All-MIAC in the 5,000-meters with an 18:30.50 clocking for sixth place at the 2025 MIAC Championships. She earned an honorable mention All-MIAC indoors in distance medley relay which was fourth in 12:49.56 at the MIAC Indoor Championship in 2025.

Swimming and Diving - Mary Morris

A sophomore biochemistry major from St. Cloud, Minn., Morris earned two All-MIAC honors and was honorable mention All-MIAC as part of the 400 free relay in the 2024-25 season. Morris, who was named to the College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District Team, placed second to earn All-MIAC honors while breaking the school record in the 200 backstroke with a clocking of 2:03.90. Her mark, which was just .12 out of first place, bettered the school mark of 2:04.49 by Ana Birklid in 2022. She earned All-MIAC honors in the 200 free, clocking a career-best 1:55.46 in placed second. It is a time that ranks fifth all-time in school history. Morris placed eighth in the 50 freestyle by clocking 24.61.   In addition to her individual performances, she played a key role as the Bennies' 400 free relay picked up All-MIAC honorable mention honors by placing fourth in 3:38.16. She was also part of the 200-freestyle relay that placed fifth and the 200-medley relay that placed sixth in 1:48.25. Morris earned honorable mention All-MIAC honors in 2023-24 by placing fourth in the 200 backstroke and sixth in the 200 freestyle.

Lacrosse – Ava Mosley

A first-year global business leadership major from Stillwater, Minn., Mosley helped lead CSB to an 11-6 record, including 7-2 and second place in the WIAC. Mosley, who was named All-WIAC and the WIAC Newcomer of the Year, was recently named the CSB Athletics "Co-Rookie of the Year" with Lily Treml of CSB Softball. Mosley played in and started all 17 games for the Bennies, totaling a team-best 50 goals and 66 points. She also had 16 assists, accumulated 95 shots, with 77 on goal and a .521 shot percentage. She had three game-winning goals, 26 ground balls, and caused 14 turnovers. Mosley scored 12 goals in the WIAC playoffs, and became the second player in school history with 50 goals in a season (Sami Hackley, school record, 53, 2024). Mosley registered her 12th multi-goal game of the season in a come-from-behind 15-13 win against UW-LaCrosse as CSB won the third-place game in the WIAC Playoffs. Overall, she ranked fourth in the WIAC with 2.94 goals per game (2.90 in WIAC only games). She was seventh in the league in points per game at 3.88.

Softball – Bryn Ruhberg

A junior from Lino Lakes, Minn., Ruhberg earned All-MIAC and NFCA Division III All-Region IX Second Team honors. Named All-Region with teammates Olivia Tautges and Cat Smetana, she is one of CSB's 30 all-time All-Region honorees, who have collectively earned 49 total selections. This year's group adds to that legacy, bringing CSB's total number of second-team selections to 17. It also marks the second time in three years that CSB has had three players earn All-Region honors in the same season. Ruhberg was instrumental in leading the Bennies to a 26-14 overall record, including a second-place finish in the MIAC with a 17-5 conference mark. The team was 1-1 in the MIAC playoffs, claiming a 3-2 semifinal win over St. Olaf before narrowly falling to top-seeded Saint Mary's in the championship game, 5-3. Ruhberg emerged as one of the MIAC's most versatile and outstanding hitters. She led CSB with a .383 batting average (8th in MIAC) and ranked 2nd in slugging percentage (.670), 3rd in on-base percentage (.504), and 3rd in OPS (1.174) in the MIAC. She added five home runs (5th, MIAC), 35 RBI (5th, MIAC), and led the MIAC with 15 hit-by-pitches. Playing both catcher and outfield, Ruhberg hit an astounding .488 with an .837 slugging percentage in 22 games behind the plate, while batting .295 in 17 games in the outfield. She finished the season with a .973 fielding percentage, 93 putouts, and 16 assists. Over her three-year career, she has a .323 average, five home runs, 19 doubles, and 54 RBI, while holding the school record for being hit by a pitch 26 times.

Volleyball – Audrey Spolidoro

A senior global business leadership major from Cottage Grove, Minn., Spolidoro helped lead her team to its first MIAC playoff title and first NCAA appearance since 2019. In 2024, she earned All-MIAC, AFCA All-Region and AVCA honorable mention All-American honors for her efforts. She was also named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team and earned Academic All-MIAC honors for a third straight time. In 27 games and 106 sets in 2024, Spolidoro had 77 kills, 33 service aces and 352 digs or 3.32 per set. She registered 51 total blocks. Twenty times this year and 56 times in her career, she achieved double doubles. She finished her career with 3,503 career assists (6th, all-time at CSB) and 1,104 digs and she was just the third volleyball player in school history to achieve 3,000 assists and 1,000 digs. Spolidoro also had 94 career service aces and 124 total blocks. She was named CSB's first honorable mention All-American since 2017 when Megan Pekarek was honored with her second honorable mention All-American honor (2015, 2017). Spolidoro was the 12th Bennie to earn honorable mention All-American honors from the AVCA. A three-time All-MIAC honoree, Spolidoro was one of three players who received All-MIAC distinction for the third time, a feat achieved by 63 volleyball players in recorded conference history. Spolidoro and her teammates finished 8-3 in the MIAC for fourth place. Late in the season, St. Benedict won seven straight games and 12-of-14 to reach the national tourney. The run included winning the MIAC Tournament Championship for the first time since 2017 as CSB defeated fifth-seeded Augsburg, 3-2, at home before sweeping both the No. 1 seed Gustavus Adolphus and No. 2 seed St. Catherine on the road. In fact, led by Spolidoro, the Bennies finished the tourney by winning their final seven sets. Five times in her career, including three times this year, Spolidoro was named MIAC Specialty Player of the Week. She also earned selection to the MIAC All-Playoff Team in 2024. The senior ranked second in the MIAC and 25th in NCAA DIII with 9.79 assists per set with 1,038 assists also second in the MIAC and 30th in DIII. With 1,038 set assists this season, she bettered her career best in 2022.

Hockey – Jenna Timm

A senior finance major from Maple Grove, Minn., Timm was a captain for the Bennies, and led her team to a 12-10-3 (9-8-1, 6th, MIAC) record. She was tied for the team lead in assists (10) and points (17). She played 22 games and recorded 55 shots with three game-winning goals. Timm, a native of Maple Grove, Minn., received her third career All-MIAC honor after previously being named to the team in 2021-22 and 2022-23. She also earned All-MIAC Rookie Team recognition in 2021. This year, Timm was one of four student-athletes from the MIAC to receive all-conference honors for the third time in their careers. All-time at CSB, Timm is the fourth three-time All-MIAC honoree (Paula Vogt, 1998-2001; Kate Rollwagen, 1998-2002; Susan Engel, 2001-05). She also earned Academic All-MIAC honors three times, and this year was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. During the 2024-25 season, In four seasons with St. Ben's, she helped lead the Bennies to 47 wins, the second-most victories in a four-year period since the program's inception in 1997-98. Notably, Timm and her senior class accumulated 32 MIAC wins, setting a school record for the most league victories in a four-year span. Timm was tied with fellow senior Aurora Opsahl for the most points on the team this season, recording 17 total points. She scored seven goals and added 10 assists, along with 55 shots, two game-winning goals, and a team-high 38 blocked shots. Her efforts were instrumental in CSB's top-ranked power play in NCAA Division III, which operated at 33.3%. One of Timm's standout moments this season came on February 14, when she scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lead the Bennies to a 4-3 upset over No. 4 Augsburg. This victory marked CSB's first win over the top five team since 2016. Over her career, Timm has netted 19 goals, including a career-high seven this season, and has accumulated 39 assists, ranking fifth all-time in program history. She also recorded seven game-winning goals, which places her third all-time at CSB.

Soccer – Alli Voss

Voss, a senior global business leadership major, from Edina, Minn., was named a first-team All-MIAC honoree at forward for the second time in three years. Voss becomes the 26th CSB student-athlete to earn two or more All-MIAC first-team honors. CSB has now had at least one all-conference honoree for 33 straight years. In earning her second All-MIAC first-team honor, Voss was one of the MIAC's top players on offense. In 2024, she started 17 games, accumulating 11 goals which was tied for third in the MIAC. Her 1.53 points per game was tied with Jessica Oliver of Bethel for the MIAC lead. The 26 points by Voss was the third most overall in the league. She scored three game-winning goals for 11th in the MIAC with her 3.65 shots per game ranking fourth in the league. In 2022, Voss was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region second Team and named first-team All-MIAC. In 2024, she started in all 19 games, playing a total of 1226 minutes and scored 12 goals, recorded 3 assists, and finished the season with 46 shots, including 33 on goal. In her career, Voss started 66 of 72 games, finishing with 31 goals and 12 assists for 74 points. She recorded 187 shots, including 104 on-goal, and had 12 game-winning goals.
