Canfield, Bartels, Schlueter all win titles as CSB Swim and Dive falls to Gustavus

During meet, the seniors for CSB were recognized

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict had individual titles from three student-athletes but dropped a 206-94 dual decision to Gustavus Adolphus on Senior Day at the Warner Palaestra Pool.

St. Benedict also had six other second place performances in the final home meet of the regular season. In prep for the MIAC Championships on Feb. 17-22, the Bennies will compete at the Minnesota Challenge in Minneapolis on Feb. 7-8 and the Dodd Road Diving Invite on Feb. 8 in Northfield, Minn. During today's meet, the CSB seniors were recognized for their outstanding work in the pool, and classroom.

CSB had a title from junior Rachel Schlueter in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.76 which was just off her season best (59.08). Schlueter also finished second in thee 50 freestyle at 26.08 and swam on the 200 medley relay was finished second.

Junior Megan Bartels was CSB only double winner as she captured a pair of titles. She won the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.40 (.04 from her PR) while senior Liz Hansen was fifth in 1:13.80 (.11 from her season-best). In the 200 breaststroke, Bartels won the event in 2:35.26. Sophomore Claire Canfield also captured an individual title by clocking 2:13.84 in the 200 backstroke.

St. Ben's also had a pair of second place finishes from sophomore Mary Morris. who was clocked in 55.33 in the 100-freestyle, a season-best effort. She also was runner-up in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.96., which was her top mark for the event this season.

In the 200-medley relay, the CSB team of Schlueter, Bartels, Canfield, and  Morris clocked 1:52.79 to place second. In another relay, the 200 freestyle, the  Bennies were finish with a time of 1:46.80. Relay members include Hansen, Bartels, Schlueter and Mikayla Haskamp.

On the 3-meter board, sophomore Ella Kowalczyk registered a final score of 379.95 to place second with  Haskamp, fourth at 321.00 points and Emma Netland, fifth, 314.60.  Haskamp was the top placer on the one-meter board at 343.05 points with Kowalcyk, third, 330.10.

Junior Morgan Stout had a season-best in the 1000-freestyle at 11:56.68 for second while first-year Natalie Pfau was third in 12:01.32. Stout was also CSB's top finished in the 500-freestyle  in 5:46.04 at seventh place.

Sophomore Jayda Alholm was CSB's top placer at fourth in the 200 freestyle by clocking 2:06.96. Alholm was also fourth in the 400 IM by clocking 5:15.36. Sophomore Josey Jackson was fifth in 2:37.66 and first-year Millie Pratt, sixth in 2:43.01 of the 200 butterfly.
