On a three-game winning streak, CSB Soccer faces road test at Wartburg

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- The College of Saint Benedict soccer team (3-1-0) is set to embark on their first road trip of the 2024 season. They will face Wartburg College (2-3) at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, in Waverly, Iowa. The Bennies, who have a three-game winning streak, will return to St. Joseph for their MIAC home opener against Macalester at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, at the CSB Outdoor Athletic Complex.

The Bennies have a strong history, with 27 winning seasons since 1984. Last year, they finished tied for third in the MIAC with a 6-3-2 record and an overall mark of 9-6-3. In recent seasons, CSB has consistently performed well, placing in the top four of the MIAC each year for the past four years. Notably, they secured second place in both 2022 and 2021.

  • The Bennies rank second in the MIAC and 40th in NCAA DIII with 8.75 saves per game.
  • CSB is third in the MIAC and 47th in DIII with a shot accuracy of 0.635.

  • Senior goalkeeper Annie Waters ranks second in the MIAC and 49th in DIII with a .929 save percentage. She is also second in the MIAC with 6.50 saves per game and 26 total saves.
  • Senior Emma Young leads the MIAC and is 31st in DIII with three assists.

Series Notes:

  • In their last match up, CSB defeated Wartburg, 3-0 on September 17, 2023, in St. Joseph. The all-time series stands at 6-7-2 in favor of Wartburg, with CSB holding a 1-5-1 record in away games. The Bennies have won four of the last 10 encounters, including a 9-0 victory in their inaugural meeting on September 10, 1987.

This season, Wartburg is averaging 1.2 goals per game while allowing 1.2. The team averages 13.8 shots per game with a .464 shot-on-goal percentage and has earned 22 corner kicks. Natalie Thiesfeld and Sami Webster have each scored twice this season.
