The win concluded a weekend split for CSB, which finished 1-1 in their opening home games of the season. The victory also marked St. Ben's head coach
Steve Kimble's 150th career win.
"It was great to split the weekend against two strong WIAC teams," Kimble said. "We had some positive moments on offense, taking an early lead and then scoring late to secure the win. It was a solid team effort."
CSB outshot UW-SP 20-15, with Soli leading the charge. The sophomore from Ham Lake, Minn., now has three career goals at St. Ben's. She put CSB ahead 1-0 with an unassisted goal at 15:40 of the first half, capitalizing on a rebound after her initial shot was blocked. The Bennies held a 10-4 shot advantage in the first half.
The lead grew to 2-0 when junior
Alli Voss netted her first goal of the season and the 21st of her career at the 55:32 mark, assisted by
Emma Young. Voss and Soli both led CSB with five shots.
UW-SP responded with a comeback as Christa Borchardt scoring an unassisted goal at 66:56 and Mary Gustafson found the net with an assist from Gabby Dunn at 83:42.
However, CSB had the answer as Soli delivered the game-winner at 85:58, assisted by Voss and
Grace Fitzgibbons.
"That was a huge play," Kimble said. "We showed great patience and focus to secure the win."
CSB's defense had a slight edge with an 8-7 margin in saves, as senior
Annie Waters recorded five saves in 61:52, while junior
Madisen Carter added two saves in the final 28:08. UW-SP led 6-5 in corner kicks, including a 5-0 advantage in the second half, while CSB had a 5-1 edge in the first half.
The Bennies will continue their home stand with two upcoming games. On Saturday, Sept. 7, CSB will host UW-Oshkosh at 2 p.m., followed by a match against Central College on Sunday, Sept. 8, at 3:30 p.m., both at the CSB Outdoor Athletic Complex.
