ST. JOSEPH, Minn. - The College of Saint Benedict soccer team will play a pair of matches over the weekend, Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 12-13. Saint Ben's will head to University of Wisconsin-Stout for a 5 p.m. battle Saturday night, Sept. 12, before hosting University of Minnesota-Morris Sunday, Sept. 13 for a 1 p.m. contest. 

 

Saint Benedict enters the weekend with a 3-0 record, as the team is off to the best start since 2017. Most recently, CSB recorded its first shutout of the young season in a 3-nil win at Central College Sunday afternoon, Sept. 6. First-year Eva Gower (Plymouth, Minn./Orono) led the offense with a brace, recording her first collegiate goal in the process. Sophomore Veronica Warren (North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View) also net a goal in the game, the first of her career. Sophomore goalkeepers Anna Mollenhauer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna) and Claire McGrath (Stillwater, Minn./Hill-Murray) combined for the shutout. Mollenhauer made seven saves in the opening frame, while McGrath locked in the win with a pair of stops.  

 

After 14 saves over two games, logging 90 minutes between the pipes, Mollenhauer earned Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Defensive Player of the Week honors Tuesday, Sept. 8. It marked the first weekly accolade of the sophomore's career.  

 

Through three games, Gower tops the team with two goals and five points. Warren and fellow sophomore Elly Prairie (Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) follow with three points apiece, as each has recorded one goal and an assist.  

 

The Bennies have seen all four goalkeepers in action this season. Mollenhauer leads the way with 14 saves over 90 minutes of action. Senior Rhianna Anya (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson Sr.) follows with six saves spanning 90 minutes. McGrath and first-year Samantha Hartnett (Saint Michael, Minn./St. Michael Albertville) have each registered a pair of stops over 45 minutes in goal.  

 

CSB is set to face UW-Stout (2-0-1) for the 13th time dating back to 2007. Saint Ben's will take a 9-2-1 record on the road. The Bennies have not lost to the Blue Devils since 2012, as the five of the last six contests have resulted in a win to go along with one double overtime draw in the mix. Most recently, Saint Benedict bested UW-Stout, 5-2, Sept. 21, 2025. The win featured a brace from then-junior Avery Soli (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine), who tacked on an assist to record a career-high five points. Addison Stephani also added a multi-point showing, as she finished with one goal and an assist. McGrath led the defense with four saves over 45 minutes, allowing two goals, while Mollenhauer closed out the game in goal, recording a pair of stops. The Blue Devils enter the bout off a scoreless draw at University of Wisconsin-Superior Sunday, Sept. 6.  

 

Saint Benedict will return home to host Minnesota-Morris (0-1) Sunday afternoon, as the Bennies will meet the Cougars for the seventh time since 2004. CSB brings in an unblemished 6-0 record into the match, most recently winning 10-nil Sept. 1, 2021. Roxy Veldman recorded a hat trick to lead the dominant offense, adding one assist to finish with seven points. Caralyn Conners and Erica Golenzer also had a multi-goal game, as they finished with two scores apiece. Minnesota-Morris most recently dropped a 6-2 contest at Concordia College Tuesday, Sept. 1. The Cougars will face Hamline University Friday night, Sept. 11, before battling the Bennies.
