ST. CLOUD, Minn. – In a closely contested defensive battle, the College of Saint Benedict Hockey Team (9-7-0, 7-4-0 MIAC) dropped a 2-1 MIAC home decision to No. 15 Augsburg (11-5-2, 8-2-1 MIAC) at the Ritsche Arena of the Municipal Athletic Complex.
With the setback the Bennies, which have won nine of their past 13 games, fell to 7-4 in the MIAC standings and 9-7-0 overall. CSB, which is in third in the MIAC, will face the Auggies on Saturday (Jan. 18) at 2 p.m., as the home-and-home series moves to Minneapolis.
In the game tonight, Elizabeth Fagerlind scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Tenley Stewart and Sydney Rudel to break a 1-1 tie at 6:38 of the third period.
Augsburg opened a 1-0 lead in the first period on an even-handed goal by Emily Cronkhite (11) at 15:24.  Carleigh Drill and Kiley Wahlin assisted on the play.
In the second period, CSB tied the game with junior 
Corrine Brown's sixth goal of the year off an assist by 
Aurora Opsahl, who recorded her 10
th assist of the season.  In the period, Augsburg had a 15-13 shot edge while the Bennies won 27-of-38 faceoffs for 71.1 percent.
Overall, Augsburg outshot the Bennies, 23-20. However the Bennies won 73.6 percent of the face offs on 39-of-53 situations. In face offs, 
Shauna Miller won 12-of-15, 
Ava Stinnett was 12-of-17 with 
Mia Lopez successful on 10-of-13.
Both goaltenders had solid performances with senior 
Ally Frantzick of Saint Ben's allowing just two goals in 58:34 while making 21 saves. Augsburg's Chloe Stockinger allow one goal with 19 saves in 60 minutes.
Both teams had power play opportunities with CSB, 0-2, and Augsburg, 0-3.
