Despite goals by Timm and Stinnett, CSB Hockey falls to No. 15 Augsburg, 3-2 in OT

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – For the second straight day, the College of Saint Benedict Hockey Team (9-8-0, 7-5-0 MIAC) dropped a closely contested matchup with No. 15 Augsburg (12-5-2, 9-2-1 MIAC), falling 3-2 in overtime in Minneapolis.

The setback drops the Bennies to 7-5 in the MIAC and 9-8 overall.  CSB dropped to fourth in the conference standings.  Next up, the Bennies will play a nonconference game against Wisconsin-Superior on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 7 pm in Superior, Wis. Then, the Bennies host MIAC matches with Saint Mary's on Feb. 3-4 at Ritsche Arena in St. Cloud.

In the match up today, the teams played to a scoreless first period before Augsburg outscored CSB, 2-1, in the second stanza and then had the game-winner in the third period to take the two-game series.

However, it was CSB who opened the scoring on an even-handed goal by sophomore forward Ava Stinnett at 3:56 of the second period. Stinnett, who scored off Aurora Opsahl's 12th assist of the season, now has five goals and 12 points in 2022-23. Augsburg tied the game at 1-1 on a goal by Emily Schoeberl at 5:13 of the second period as she had assists from Nora Stepan and Dorothy Kearney.

Later in the period at 19:55, Sydney Rydel provided the Auggies with a 2-1 lead on an even handed goal with assists from C. Jenkins Coffman and Kennedy Stein.

At 12:50 of the third period, CSB tied the match at 2-2 when Jenna Timm had an even-handed tally on her fourth goal of the season off Opsahl's second assist of the game. In  overtime, Stepan's goal at 2:41 ended the game on an even-handed goal. Emily Cronkhite was credited with the assist on the game-winner.

In the game, CSB was outshot, 43-17 and lost the face off battle with 24 wins in 52 attempts. Stinnett had 10 wins in 22 chances and Shauna Miller and nine wins in 10 chances. In goal, senior Ally Frantzick had another solid performance with 40 saves in 63:41 on the ice. Marissa Paaske allowed two goals with 15 shots stopped in 61:59 in goal.
