Doran leads Bennies to secure win over Scots on Senior Day

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Madison Doran was celebrated for being an intricate part of the CSB basketball team as a senior captain and she showed her leadership on the court to lead the Bennies to victory Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.

A good first quarter helped the Bennies pull away early and then a huge push in the fourth quarter helped them secure the lead for a 68-54 victory over Macalester. The win pushes CSB to 12-7 overall and 9-7 in the MIAC with just five games left in the regular season.

Doran scored the first four points in the game to give the Bennies a 4-2 lead out of the gate. CSB would outscore MAC 20-11 to round out the first quarter and then head into the locker room at half time leading 34-24. Doran sparked a 12-2 run in the end of the second quarter that included a 3-pointer from Gabby Martin and Sophia Jonas and two good free throws by Olivia Boily to put them 32-21 with 1:45 left in the first half.

The Scots came out to play hard in the third quarter and outscored the CSB 17-13 to cut the Bennies lead to just six points going into the final quarter. A good jumper by Boily and a 3-pointer from Carla Meyer ignited the Bennies early in the fourth and they were able to maintain a steady lead to victory to end the game.

Doran finished with 15 points and one steal, Meyer had 14 points and six rebounds, and Martin had 11 points, six rebounds and two steals to pace CSB. Boily finished with 10 rebounds, just shy of matching her career high. CSB shot 45 percent from the field and went 6 for 8 from the line. The team had a total of 40 rebounds and 12 turnovers in the game.

Peyton Starks scored 12 points and pulled down three rebounds for the Scots, who went 38 percent from the field. Macalester went 6 for 15 from the line and had 31 rebounds and 15 turnovers.

The Bennies go for a second straight win and look to split a season series with Hamline Monday when they head to Saint Paul for a 7 p.m. game.
