MEQUON, WIS. – A power play goal from
Jenna Timm and strong defense, led by senior
Ally Frantzick, were the keys as the College of Saint Benedict (1-3) earned a hard fought 1-0 road win over Concordia University Wisconsin (2-1-1) on Saturday (Nov. 5.).
HC Lindsay Macy earns 1st win.
The win was the first at CSB by first-year Head Coach
Lindsay Macy, whose team was involved in a third straight match decided by a goal. CSB had fallen to No. 5 UW-Eau Claire, 4-3 in OT, at Ritsche Arena on Oct. 29 and lost to CUW, 3-2, on Friday night (Nov. 4).
So, this win was important and welcomed, noted Macy.
"Our team battled hard today, and we got the monkey off our back," said Macy, noting the closeness of the last three games. "It was a good effort by all our players from top to bottom," she said.
CSB, which will begin MIAC play at Concordia College (Minn.) on Friday, Nov. 11 on the road before a league home date with Concordia College on Saturday, moved to 1-3 on the season.
Senior Goalie Allie Frantzick recorded her fourth career shutout.
Timm, who was named to the All-MIAC First Team and All-MIAC All-Rookie Team a year ago, scored an unassisted power play goal at 12:17 of the second period to break a scoreless tie. Timm scored her six goal of her career and the first this season. She now has goals in back-to-back years against CUW. And, interestingly, she scored her first career goal against CUW on the same date as today a year ago (Nov. 5, 2021).
Frantzick recorded her fourth career shutout with the 1-0 decision as she had 23 saves in 59:42. The 2019-20 Honorable Mention All-MIAC goalkeeper recorded her ninth career win as she turned away seven shots in the first period and eight in both the final two periods.
As noted by Macy, this win was a compliment to the entire squad which controlled the match and carried the attack to CUW. CSB had a 62-to-23 edge in shots. CSB had six shots on goal from Timm with seven by
Kennedy Morris and eight by
Aurora Opsahl.
CUW had a 31-to-30 edge in faceoffs but were 0-4 on power plays with CSB, 1-of-6. In addition, CUW had a 22-to-15 edge in blocks but also had a 6-to-4 margin in penalties. CUW Goaltender Annalina Van Hercke allowed one goal while registering 61 saves in 58:21.
