ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict swim and dive team made the short drive into St. Cloud Thursday night to take on Division II St. Cloud State in a nonconference dual meet. A tough Huskies squad won the meet 182.5-905., but the Bennies finished the night with 13 top-three finishes.
Junior
Fiona Rosko led the team with a trio of top three finishes, including a win in the 100 fly. She finished the race in 1:03.95.She also finished second in both the 200 breaststroke (2:33.44) and 200 fly (2:20.58). Senior
Ana Birklid also recorded two top-two finishes and a third top-five finish after winning the 200 IM in 2:12.86, finishing second in the 200 free in 1:59.17 and fourth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.36.
Diver
Emily Quill finished fifth in both the one-and three-meter competitions Thursday evening. She finished the one-meter, six-dive competition with a score of 232.25 and the three-meter competition with a score of 213.30.
Laura Jennings took second in the 100 fly in 1:06.09 and third in the 200 fly in 2:26.76, and teammate
Mary Ridgeway finished third in the 100 fly in 1:07.77.
Madison Slavik took third in the 200 backstroke (2:22.53) and fourth in the 100 back (1:04.16), and teammate
Molly Johanson finished fifth in the 200 back in 2:23.57 and third in the 500 free in 5:34.06.
Emi Wagner took second in the 50 free in 25.90 seconds and
Riley Engle finished fifth in 26.79 seconds.
Maria Beck and
Kate Mechels finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 200 breaststroke with Beck finishing in 2:46.71 and Mechels in 2:51.19.
Grace Ritten took second in the 200 IM in 2:30.17 and
Lindsay Smutka took fifth in the 100 back in 1:04.72. Slavik,
Hannah Tatge,
Jocie Larson and Wagner teamed up to win the 200 free relay in 1:45.02, and Slavik, Birklid, Larson and Wagner finished fourth in the 200 medley relay in 1:55.92.
Saint Benedict has two more tune-up meets before the 2022 MIAC Championships, including one more MIAC dual as it travels to St. Peter on Saturday, Jan. 29, to take on Gustavus at 1 p.m.
