College of Saint Benedict Athletics

Saturday at the Luther All-American Invite in Decorah, Iowa, junior cross country runner Morgan Pierce finished first with a time of 18:57.1. Her time was more than 10 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, thus making her this week’s College of Saint Benedict Athlete of the Week.
 
Pierce finished first in the 5K race with more than 100 runners competing. Her finishing time has her tied for the 12^th-best 5K time in CSB history. This was her second straight top-two finish this season, adding on to her second-place finish at the Crown Invite last weekend.
 
This is the second time in her career that Pierce has won a race. She won the Fall Finale last year. Pierce’s win helped the CSB cross country team finish third overall, only two points behind the second-place team.
 
The cross country team is having a great start to their season so far. The next meet for the team is the Alumnae Meet at Saint John’s on Sept. 23.
