ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Madeline Pagel had a career weekend on the course for the College of Saint Benedict golf team.
She finished her weekend at the College City Classic with career-best 18- and 36-hole scores, and recorded the second-best individual finish of her career at the 12-team tournament. For her weekend, Pagel has been named the CSB Athlete of the Week.
Pagel, a sophomore from Rochester, started the tournament – held in Hastings, Minn. – by shooting a career-best 78 in the first round Saturday afternoon. Her previous best was an 82 at last year’s MIAC Showcase on Sept. 12. That score is also tied for the team low for 18-hole individual scores so far this season.
Pagel was tied for fifth after the first round Saturday, and shot an 84 Sunday to finished with a two-round total of 162 – her career-best for 36 holes. Her previous best was a 165 at the MIAC Showcase. That score left Pagel in a tie for 13
th out of 75 golfers, which is the second-best finish of her career.
After three tournaments this season, Pagel has a top-15 finish and a top-30 finish under her belt. She’s shot 80 or better twice, and she has a season stroke average of 85.0.
Pagel and her teammates are off now until Oct. 8-10 when they travel to Coon Rapids for the MIAC Championships. CSB took fourth at last year’s championship meet and is looking for another top-half finish this season.
