ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Natalie Amundson added her name to the College of Saint Benedict golf record books in a few more places this past weekend.
Amundson finished in the top 10 at the MIAC Championships for the second time in her CSB career, becoming just the second CSB golfer to achieve the feat. For her finish at the conference meet, Amundson has been named the CSB Athlete of the Week.
The first two days of the 2016 MIAC Championships played out exactly the way the 2015 conference meet did for Amundson, a sophomore from Alexandria, Minn. After Saturday’s first round she sat in 12
th place with an 82. In the second round Sunday, however, she shaved seven strokes off her score and moved up to fifth place.
Amundson wrapped up the three-day tournament with an 81 Monday afternoon to finish with a 238 and finish eighth overall. The eighth-place finish comes one year after she tied for second, making her the first CSB golfer to record back-to-back top-10 MIAC finishes since 2011 when Kathrynn Hauff recorded her third-straight top-10 finish. Hauff and Amundson are the only two CSB golfers to finish in the top 10 twice in their careers.
As well as earning a top-10 finish, Amundson also finished the weekend with a pair of scores that earn a spot in the CSB record books. Her 75 from Sunday afternoon is the fifth-best 18-hole individual score in school history, and her final score of 238 marks the fourth-best 54-hole score in CSB golf history.
Amundson’s top-10 finish ensures she will earn All-MIAC honors for the second straight year in the spring when the All-MIAC list is announced. The MIAC Championships marked the final meet of the fall for Amundson and her teammates, and CSB will continue the 2016-17 season in the spring.
