ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – For the past two years, Alicia Evenson has been centimeters from cracking the College of Saint Benedict indoor track and field record boards.
Evenson recorded a career-best mark of 1.53 meters in the high jump as a sophomore in 2014, which fell just shy of the school’s top-10 list. As a junior in 2015, she came close again, but fell just shy of personal best with a mark of 1.52 meters Feb. 7 at the St. Scholastica Invite.
This past weekend, Evenson bettered her personal best and finally made her way into the school record books. For her performance, Evenson has been named the CSB Athlete of the Week.
Evenson’s career-best performance came Friday night at the Hamster Invite, hosted by Macalester and Hamline on the Macalester campus. She won the high jump competition with a mark of 1.55 meters, which ties for eighth-best in Blazer indoor history.
Saturday’s jump puts Evenson at ninth in the MIAC so far this season. Concordia’s Vanessa Johnson holds the league’s top mark at 1.66 meters.
Evenson also competed in the long jump Friday night and took third with a mark of 4.81 meters. She is currently ranked 13
th in the MIAC in the long jump with a season-best mark of 4.90 meters, recorded Jan. 30 at Concordia.
Evenson and her teammates get the opportunity to compete at home for the first time this season Saturday, Feb. 13, when CSB and SJU host Macalester for the CSB|SJU Triangular. The meet, which starts at 11 a.m. on the SJU campus, also serves as the annual almnae meet for the Blazers.
