ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team was looking for some momentum heading into its spring break, and the Blazers got some thanks to a 7-2 win over Hamline Thursday afternoon in Sartell.
Leading the way for CSB was senior Victoria Beach and sophomore Cassy Finn. Both athletes won their singles matches, and the duo teamed up for a win in doubles as well for three of CSB’s seven wins against the Pipers. For their help in the win, Beach and Finn have been named the CSB Athletes of the Week.
Finn and Beach started their night with an 8-4 win at the No. 2 doubles spot to help the Blazers sweep doubles play and head into singles with a 3-0 lead. Beach picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles, and Finn wrapped up her night with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles to help Saint Benedict to the win.
The duo is now 4-4 in doubles play – mostly at No. 2 doubles – and is the winningest doubles team for CSB so far this season. Finn and Beach are 2-2 in conference doubles play together. Beach leads the team with five singles wins and is 5-4, including 4-2 at No. 2 singles, and she is 3-2 in the MIAC. Finn is 3-4 overall in singles play, and is 3-1 in conference play.
CSB is now 4-6 overall and 2-3 in the MIAC heading into its spring break trip to Puerto Rico. The Blazers take on the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras and Southern New Hampshire University in Palmas del Mar.
