ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Taylor Hedin picked a good time to have a big weekend.
CSB kicked off MIAC play Saturday with a 4-1 win at Saint Mary’s, and wrapped up nonconference play Sunday with a 3-0 shutout of UW-River Falls. Hedin had a hand in both wins with three goals and an assist over the course of the two games to help CSB gain some momentum heading into its game against St. Thomas, and has been named the CSB Athlete of the Week.
Hedin started her weekend with a goal and an assist in Saint Benedict’s win over SMU in Winona. She scored CSB’s third goal of the game in the 19
th minute to make it 3-0 before halftime, and assisted as teammate Nicole Newman recorded the first goal of her college career.
Sunday in River Falls, Wis., Hedin score the eventual game-winner in the 72
nd minute to get CSB on the board, and she added goal No. 3 for the weekend in the final minute of play to help CSB wrap up the weekend on a high note. That marked the third two-goal game of her career and her first since Oct. 24 of last year.
Hedin finished the weekend with three goals, one assist and seven total points. She leads the team and is fifth in the MIAC in goals (five) and points (13), and is tied for the team lead with three assists. She has already tied her 2015 assists total and is two goals shy of her season-high of seven goals, also set last season.
Saint Benedict, which is now 5-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the MIAC, returns home and gets into the heart of MIAC play Wednesday, Sept. 21, when it hosts rival St. Thomas at 4 p.m. CSB is also at home Saturday, Sept. 24, when it hosts Carleton.
