Golf Wins Gustavus Adolphus’ Fall D3 Classic, Ties 36-Hole School Record

Bennies secure first tournament championship under Krueger

HASTINGS, Minn. - The College of Saint Benedict golf team secured its first win of the season, and the first under head coach Mark Krueger, Sunday, Sept. 13, as the Bennies took home first place at the Fall D3 Classic, hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College. Saint Ben's fired a 20-over 308 today on the par 72 5,712-yard Emerald Greens Golf Course. CSB captured the championship after finishing with a two-round score of 35-over 611, besting the field by three strokes. The team's 36-hole score of 611 ties the school record set a season ago.  
 
First-year Hallie Johnson (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing) led the way with a tie for fifth place. The first-year fired an even par 72 in the first round before going for six-over 78 today to finish the weekend at six-over 150. Junior Sophia Anderson (Albany, Minn./Albany Area) finished with the best round of the day for the Bennies, as she recorded a four-over 76. Junior Kenna Henriksen (Olivia, Minn./BOLD) and sophomore Layla Mathews (Becker, Minn./Becker) each finished at five-over 77. Anderson and Henriksen tied for 13th in the tournament behind 36-hole scores of nine-over 153. Mathews cracked the top-20, as she finished tied for 19th at 11-over 155. 
 
Macalester College finished runner-up to the Bennies with a two-round total of 614. Gustavus Adolphus College was third (618), followed by St. Olaf College (619), and Bethel University (621). Concordia College's Zoe Keene took home the individual title with a two-under 142. 
 
CSB returns to action next weekend, Sept. 19-20, as it will participate in the St. Kate's Invite. Saturday's round will take place in Woodbury, Minn. at the Eagle Valley Golf Course, while Sunday will take place at Braemar Golf Course in Edina, Minn.
