Jaylyn Ahlberg's second consecutive outdoor pole vault title, the College of Saint Benedict stands fourth with 36 points after day one of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Macalester.
After seven scored events, St. Olaf leads the team race with 61 points, followed by Concordia-Moorhead with 51 in second place. Also in the team race, Gustavus is third with 48.5 points, followed by CSB in fourth (36). The championships resume on Saturday with field events starting at noon and track events at 1:30 p.m.
Ahlberg captured her fourth career MIAC pole vault crown—two indoor and two outdoor—leading a 1-2 finish for the Bennies. Both Ahlberg and teammate
Lili Raidt cleared 3.58 meters (11-09), earning All-MIAC honors. Raidt had a personal-best vault and finish and that mark ranks fourth all-time at CSB outdoors.
In the javelin, senior
Catherine Ganley earned honorable mention All-MIAC recognition with a personal-best throw of 35.37 meters (116-00), which is the sixth-best mark in program history. First-year
Allison Banse also had a standout performance, placing ninth with a personal-best 31.97 meters (104-10), surpassing her previous best by over seven feet.
In the 10,000 meters, sophomore
Abby Bufkin had a career-best mark of 39:52.30, which ranked 20th in program history, and placed fifth for honorable mention All-MIAC honors.
Banse continued her strong showing in the shot put, finishing fifth with a mark of 12.23 meters (40-01.50), earning honorable mention All-MIAC honors. Sophomore
Christian Smith also scored for CSB, placing eighth with a throw of 11.87 meters (38-11.50).
In the 4x800-meter relay, CSB took fifth place with a time of 9:38.19.
Senior
Justus Floren narrowly missed the podium in the long jump, finishing ninth with a leap of 5.07 meters (16-7.75).
In the 1,500-meter run, CSB had a series of personal bests:
Lucy Lyngen (11th, 4:53.42), first-year
Eileen O'Connor (12th, 4:53.82),
Natalie Zielsdorf (21st, 4:59.59), and
Julia Babineau (22nd, 4:59.64).
Bennies Advancing to Saturday's Finals:
- 400m Hurdles: Junior Lauren Berg ran a personal-best 1:03.09 in the prelims—second-fastest in program history—to place second and qualify for the finals. Sophomore Chloe Ostrem also advanced with a ninth-place finish in 1:08.79.
- 100m Hurdles: Senior Justus Floren moved on to the finals after placing sixth. Sophomore Anya Adelgren finished 11th in 16.33 seconds.
- 800m: Sophomore Taylor Radaich qualified for the finals with a personal-best time of 2:19.44, ranking 14th in program history.
