Jance makes CSB history by winning individual title at Rumble at the Ridge Saturday

04/19/2025

WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. – Junior Catherine Jance of the College of Saint Benedict (CSB) golf team continued her dominant play, winning her second consecutive individual title and etching her name into the program's history books. Jance fired a career-best-tying 73 (one over par) at the Rumble at the Ridge, hosted at Oneka Ridge Golf Course, securing the top spot and helping lead the Bennies to a second consecutive team runner-up finish.

Jance, who shot a 147 (74-73) to win the Gustavus Spring Invite just one week earlier, finished two strokes ahead of Carleton's Cynthia Lu (75) and three ahead of Bethel's Greta McArthur (76). With back-to-back victories, she becomes just the second golfer in CSB history to achieve this feat, joining Kathryn Hauff Dehn, a 2024 CSB Athletics Hall of Fame inductee who accomplished the same in fall 2010.

"I'm very proud and appreciative of my team and our effort today and last week," said Jance, a native of Hopkins, Minn. "Coach Daryl Schomer and I have been working a lot on my swing and overall game recently, and I think it's really starting to show."

Coach Schomer praised her growing confidence and impressive ball-striking. "Catherine is playing with a lot of confidence right now. Her driving has been as good as I've seen at this level in a long time," he said. "It's setting her up for great scoring chances. She's been a joy to watch these past couple weeks."

In her winning round, Jance recorded three birdies and 10 pars, opening with a 37 on the front nine and closing strong with an even-par 36.
