EDINA, Minn. - With three golfers in the top 15, the College of Saint Benedict golf team opened the MIAC Championships with a solid showing on Saturday (Oct. 4), finishing the first round in fourth place after posting a team score of 329 at the Braemar Golf Course.
The Bennies were led once again by junior standout
Catherine Jance, who continued her consistent fall season with a 79 over the opening 18 holes. Jance's round included two birdies and seven pars, placing her in the top 10 individually.
Close behind were teammates
Maggie Roth and
Taylar Nadler, both tied for 15th after carding rounds of 82. Roth notched three birdies during her round, while Nadler showed steady play with 10 pars.
Kenna Henriksen turned in an 86 (30th place), highlighted by one birdie and seven pars, and
Sophia Anderson rounded out CSB's lineup with an 88 (tied for 34th), recording five pars on the day.
Carleton dominated the first round with an impressive team score of 292 and currently leads the tournament, followed by Macalester (308), St. Catherine (318), and Saint Benedict (329).
Individually, Carleton's Carter Sichol set the pace with a 3-under-par 69. Teammate Kate Yi and Macalester's Bailey Lengfelder are tied for second after both shooting 71.
The second round of the three-day championship is set to tee off at 11 a.m. on Sunday as CSB looks to climb the leaderboard and continue its strong fall campaign.
