Mark Krueger named to lead CSB Golf

05/07/2026

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. — The College of Saint Benedict golf program is entering a new era with the appointment of Mark Krueger as head coach.

Krueger, who previously served as an assistant coach for the Bennies, succeeds longtime head coach Daryl Schomer, who will transition into a new role as the program's swing coach.

"I want to thank Daryl for his time leading the Bennie golf program," stated College of Saint Benedict Athletic Director Kelly Anderson Diercks. "His commitment to our student-athletes extended far beyond competition, emphasizing growth in the classroom, on the course, and as leaders," she added.

Schomer steps away from the head coaching position after 15 successful seasons leading the program. During his tenure, CSB established itself as a consistent contender in the MIAC, finishing among the conference's top five teams in 13 seasons. The Bennies earned back-to-back runner-up finishes in 2017-18 and 2018-19, while 21 student-athletes garnered All-MIAC First Team honors. The program also produced a WGCA All-Region selection in 2023-24.

Under Schomer's leadership, the Bennies set several program scoring records, including the school's 54-hole mark at the 2017 MIAC Championships, the 36-hole record of 611 in 2025, and the program's 18-hole record during the 2025-26 season. One of the team's standout performances came at the St. Kate's Invitational, where CSB posted a 36-hole total of 611 to break the previous school record by 12 strokes.

The program also excelled academically under Schomer's guidance. The 2024-25 team earned WGCA All-Scholar Team honors with a 3.769 team GPA, ranking 13th nationally among NCAA Division III programs. Six golfers were named WGCA All-American Scholars, while seven earned Academic All-MIAC recognition.

Krueger Takes Over
Krueger assumes the head coaching role after helping guide the Bennies to one of the program's strongest MIAC Championship performances in recent years. CSB recorded a three-round total of 962 (329-309-320), its best finish at the conference championship since 2017-18 and highest placement since finishing runner-up in 2018. He also helped oversee a season in which the Bennies set three school scoring records.

"We are excited to welcome Mark Krueger as the next head coach of Bennie golf," stated Anderson Diercks. "Mark has already made a strong impact within our program as an assistant, and his understanding of our student-athletes, combined with his coaching experience and passion for the game, make him an excellent fit to lead Bennie golf into the future."

A native of Sartell, Minnesota, Krueger brings extensive coaching experience to the role, including five seasons as the head girls golf coach at ROCORI High School and a previous stint leading the program at St. Cloud Apollo. A former varsity golfer at Sartell High School, he has also competed in multiple Minnesota Golf Association qualifiers.

"I am excited to take over the program at CSB," Krueger said. "Having seen the sustained success under Daryl's leadership, I'm eager to build on that foundation and get started. After two years as an assistant, I have a strong understanding of the program and the potential of our returning student-athletes. I look forward to continuing to develop and improve throughout the season."
