Bartels, Schlueter and Canfield lead CSB Swim and Dive in dual loss to Carleton

NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- Juniors Megan Bartels and Rachel Schlueter along with sophomore Claire Canfield led the College of Saint Benedict swim and dive team, which recorded one title, six second place finishes and 11 top four finishes in falling in a dual competition to Carleton, 281-82 on Saturday, Feb. 25. 

Canfield won the only individual title in the 200 backstroke by clocking 2:14.69 while Maddie Stutelberg was fourth in 2:27.71 and Josey Jackson, fifth, 2:31.01. Canfield was also second in the 200 IM with a clocking of 2:20.80.

Schlueter continued to swim well as she placed second in a pair of individual events. She was second in the 100-backstroke in 1:02.62, followed by Canfield third at 1:02.44. First-year Grace Morphew was seventh in 1:15.64. And, Schluter was also second in the 100 freestyle at 56.29.

Schlueter and Bartels also led CSB relay teams to a pair of second place finishes. In the 200 medley relay, CSB clocked 1:53.44 with a relay of Schlueter, Bartels, Canfield and Liz Hansen.  Schlueter and Bartels also led a CSB team in the 200-freestyle relay to a second-place finish in 1:45.37. Hansen and Alholm also were part of the team.

Bartels earned a pair of second place finishes in the breaststroke events. She clocked 1:10.38 in the 100 breaststroke, which bettered her season-best mark (1:10.68).  In the same race Hansen was fourth in 1:14.80. In the 200 breaststroke, Bartels finished second in 2:36.53 with first-year Alivia Kortuem, fourth, 2:46.93 and sophomore Jayda Alholm, fifth, 2:50.74.

In the distance races, Morgan Stout led the way. She was the top finisher in the 1,650 free for the Bennies as she clocked 20:17.84 for fourth place, followed by first-year Natalie Pfau in 21:10.77 in fifth place. Stout was also sixth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:48.37.

In the 200 freestyle, sophomore Jayda Alholm clocked 2:10.14 to finish fourth and first-year Ava Niksich was sixth in 2:12.52 with first year Maddie Stutelberg, seventh in 2:14.91.  

The 200-butterfly had CSB's sophomore Anna Boomgaarden was fifth in 2:3700 with sophomore Josey Jackson, sixth in 2:37.90. First-year Millie Pratt was sixth in 1:09.40 in the 100 butterfly.

Niksich was CSB's top placer in the 50-freestyle as the first-year standout clocked 27.64 to place fourth. Junior Mikayla Haskamp and first-year Grace Morphew tying for fifth in 28.07.

In diving, CSB had several solid efforts, including on the one-meter board in which senior Sabrina Buffetta was third in 185.95. Sophomore Ella Kowalczyk was fourth in 1:55.05 with first-year Emma Netland, fifth in 148.40. On the 3-meter board, Kowalczyk was third with a score of 196.20 with Buffetta, fourth, 180.05 and Netland, fifth, 152.20.
 
Next for CSB Swim and Dive will be to host Gustavus Adolphus on Senior Day on Feb. 1 at the Warner Palaestra Pool in Collegeville, Minn.
