RIVER FALLS, Wis. – For the second time this year, the College of Saint Benedict Hockey Team traveled to face the No. 1 ranked team in NCAA DIII. On Tuesday night, UW-River Falls recorded a 12-2 decision to move to 21-3 on the season. CSB fell to 12-9 overall in their final regular season nonconference matchup.
UW-River Falls controlled the match with four goals in the opening period and six more in the second before adding two in the third period. CSB scored twice in the second period as they now have 58 team goals on the season.
CSB, which has a home and home series with St. Olaf this weekend (Feb. 10-11), including a home matchup with the Oles at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Ritsche Arena, had goals from sophomore forwards
Emma Rooks and
Aurora Opsahl, the two leading goal scorers for CSB. Rooks had her ninth goal of the season and now has 12 points. She scored an unassisted goal at 13:21 of the second period.
Opsahl tallied her team-leading 11
th goal of the season off an assist from
Addy Hackley, who had her four assists of the season. Opsahl now has 14 career goals. With her 13 assists (6
th in the MIAC), she now has a team-high 24 points which ties her for second in the league.
Overall, the Bennies were out shot, 45-10, with four shots in both the second and third period. In power play opportunities, UWRF was 1-2 while CSB was 0-1.
In her first start of the year,
Ellynor Haack had 18 saves in 35:06 on the ice while
Kate Moffat had 15 saves in 24:54. In face offs, CSB was 19-of-39 for 32.8 percent.
Ava Stinnett had 10 wins in 20 chances while
Mia Lopez had five face offs wins in 11 tries.
For UW-River Falls, Maddie McCollins, Alex Hantge and Abigail Stow each had two goals to lead the way. Hantge also had four assists for six points on the night.
