NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict (12-10-0, 9-6-0), which had goals by
Emily Lemker and
Aurora Opsahl, lost a heartbreaking 3-2 OT decision to St. Olaf (14-6-2, 10-4-1 MIAC) in MIAC play on Friday night (Feb. 10).
CSB, which will host St. Olaf on Saturday (Feb. 10) at Ritsche Arena at 4 p.m., remained in fourth place in the MIAC with a 9-6 conference mark. The Oles held onto third place with a 10-4-1 record with three games left in the regular season.
The Bennies, which played their second straight overtime game in MIAC play, built a 2-0 lead on goals by
Emily Lemker in the first period and
Aurora Opsahl in the second period before the Oles rallied. St. Olaf tied it with two goals in the third period and won it late in overtime. CSB dropped to 3-2 in overtime matches this season.
In the opening period, at 11:02, senior forward Lemker scored to give Saint Ben's a 1-0 lead. It was Lemker's second goal of the season and the fifth of her career. Sophomore defender
Morgan Cromwell was credited with the assist – her second of the season. In that opening period, CSB outshot the Oles, 7-3. St. Olaf won seven of the 12 faceoffs.
Early in the second period, sophomore forward
Aurora Opsahl had her 12
th goal of the season and 15
th of her career as the evenhanded tally gave CSB a 2-0 lead. Sophomore defender
Jenna Timm assisted on the play as she now has six assists on the season. CSB had a 7-to-3 edge in shots in the period.
At 18:30 of the third period, St. Olaf drew within 2-1 on a power play goal by Molly Terebayza. St. Olaf tied the game on a goal at 15:05 by Grace Lankas with an assist by Solvei Berg-Messerole. In the period, the Oles had a 12-to-8 shots edge. In overtime, the Oles took a 3-2 win with a power play goal by Iona Welsch at 1:05.
Overall, CSB had the advantage, for the 15
th time in 22 matches, in shots at 22-to-18. However, St. Olaf owned a 24-to-20 margin in faceoffs. Lemker won 6-of-11 faceoffs and Stinnett was victorious in 8-of-18 faceoffs.
In goal, senior
Ally Frantzick allowed three goals and recorded 18 saves in 61:05. She owns a 2.40 goals against average this season with a .905 save percentage.
