Emi Quill of the CSB Swim and Dive Team finishes 17th on 1M board at DIII regions

CHICAGO, Ill. – Senior Emily Quill of the College of Saint Benedict Swim and Dive Team wrapped up her performances at the NCAA DIII Diving Regional with a 17th place finish on the 1M board at the Gerald Ratner Athletic Center on the campus of the University of Chicago on Feb. 25.

Quill had a score of 346.10, which placed her in the top 20 at 17th. In 11 1M dives, she had an average dive score of 5.17 with a 31.46 average. Veronica Fong, who won the 3M board on Friday, also won the 1M championship at 442.30. Tang Wenxuan of the University of Chicago was second in 431;80 with Isabel Teanor of St. Olaf in third at 401.85.

On Friday, Quill had a score of 333.65 and was 29th at the NCAA DIII Diving Regionals, which was held at the Gerald Ratner Athletic Center at the University of Chicago on Feb. 24.
  
In 11 3M dives, the senior from Becker, Minn., had an average score of 4.50 per dive with the range of difficulty from 1.60 (forward 1 1/2 somersault pike) to 2.50 (forward 1 1/2 somersault 2 twist free). In a competition of 34 competitors, Quill had an average round of about 28.0 on each of the 11 rounds. Leading the competition is Veronica Fond of the University of Chicago at 479.35.

"Emi dove very consistent throughout the competition and had a great mindset," said CSB Diving Coach Elise Morell. "She took advantage of each dive. With a competitive region like ours, I can confidently say we are proud of how well she did. She has had an amazing diving career. I can't wait to see her apply the confidence and strength she has mastered in the sport to her future endeavors," said Morell.

Earlier in February, she qualified for regionals at the Northfield (Minn.) Diving Invite at Carleton College. At the meet she, registered a 436.15 to win the 1M board (11 dives), marking a regional qualifying score for the second time in four days. At the Dodd Road Diving Invite on Saturday at Carleton College, she had a one-meter board score of 413.25. On the 3M board she had a season best 405.20. At the MIAC Meet, Quill was fifth on the 3M board and eighth on the 1M board.

On Saturday morning (Feb. 25) Quill, a two-time All-American, and the 1M board competitors will warm up  before the competition begins at noon. 
 
In 2020-21, Quill was the first swimmer or diver to earn back-to-back All-American honors since standout diver Katie Macy, who earned the honor in 1995-96 and again in 1996-97. She was All-American on the 1M board in 2020-21 and on both the 1M and 3M board in 2019-20. She owns the school record for the 1M board at 459.05 (11 dives - 2020) and ranks fourth all-time at CSB on the 3M board (11 dives - 2020).
