Ava Stinnett and Aurora Opsahl record 3rd period goals to lift CSB Hockey to 3-2 win over Hamline

The Bennies earn a series sweep over the Pipers and move into 3rd in MIAC

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- With third period goals from Ava Stinnett and Aurora Opsahl, the College of Saint Benedict hockey team (9-6-0, 7-3-0 MIAC) rallied to defeat Hamline (7-9-1, 6-3-1 MIAC), 3-2, on Saturday (Jan. 21) at Ritsche Arena.

As a result of the come-from-behind win, the Bennies won their second straight game and swept Hamline in a home-and-home series this weekend. After a dramatic 4-3 overtime win at Hamline on Friday, the Bennies had to rally from a 2-1 deficit to win late as Stinnett's game-winning goal came at 17:19 of the third period.

CSB now sits at 7-3 in the MIAC for third place, just a ½ game behind Augsburg at 7-2-1. The Bennies and Auggies will meet in a home-and-home series on Thursday (Jan. 26) at Ritsche Arena and Saturday in Minneapolis.

The rally tonight was very pleasing to first year CSB Head Coach Lindsay Macy, who noted her team's resiliency and ability to come together to make plays at crucial times.

"This was a great bounce-back weekend for us," said Macy, whose team lost a home-and-home with MIAC leader and No. 1 ranked Gustavus last weekend. "I am proud of the grit they showed coming back from a two-goal deficit against a very talented Hamline team," she said.
